ten on tuesday

1. I’ve found that I don’t even think about making New Year’s resolutions any more. Instead I end up with this renewed energy and a list of projects I want to accomplish right.now. Seems like I redid every room in my house from January-March last year! I have lots of ideas in my head for this year that I’m excited about.

2. Some of them being: curtains for the dining room, painting the hallway and adding a family/art gallery there, organizing the laundry room and all the kitchen desk drawers, painting the hall bathroom, and lots of little projects in our bedroom. (no, not those kinds of projects. Sheesh.)

3.  A couple of the things on my to-do project list have already gotten crossed off and it feels goooood. First, I added barstools to our island in the kitchen and I wish it were an understatement to say it has changed my life. (If it were an understatement that would mean my life were much more exciting. It’s not. It takes very little to change my life.)

The new stools keep me from running back and forth from our little dining area to the kitchen/sink/cupboards/cutting board/dishtowels every time somebody needs something. And even better than that, they help confine the food mess to the countertops and tile kitchen floors rather than griming up the dining area all day, every day. I’m in love. B-R0 feels like a pretty big boy too, as an added bonus.

4. Another little project I’ve been meaning to get to for, oh, 3 years is establishing an easy way to save and organize life memories that aren’t pictures. You know, cards and letters, invitations, drawings, locks of hair – that sort of thing. I realize how simple and non earth-shattering this idea is but please humor me since it took, oh, 3 years for me to come up with it! At Target this weekend I picked up these – one blue and one pink. Mine are slightly different since I have a wider front pocket to put larger items but the idea is basically the same. This gives me a quick and easy spot to insert any little treasures that come along that I can’t bear to part with.

5. And while I’m sharing pics, I know I promised to show the finished product of Ephraim’s board book…

It’s a 6×6 blank board book that I got at Michael’s (or JoAnn) several years ago. I resized the images and in photoshop I placed four of them onto one 12×12 document. Printed them, cut them apart, and adhered them to the book when they arrived. He’s been really into it…although I think I love it more than he does!

6. Any other wordpress bloggers out there? I have a question…PLEASE tell me there’s a more efficient way to add images into posts than what I’m currently doing: upload pics from computer, pics get added into gallery, then click on each pic individually and choose “insert into post”…it takes forever! Am I missing something crucial? I feel like I’m working in the dark trying to figure out this new interface!

7.  If you added a question to the FAQs post back on the old blog I’m still checking it so no worries. I’ll get started on those sometime in the next week so keep checking! In the meantime there are some links up top to the old FAQs.

8. Check the sidebar for the link to Photo-A-Day 2009. I know I tend to fall off the wagon from time to time but when I look back on all those images they are always my favorites. Nothing beats snapshots of life. I need to get started on coffee table books of those images from the last two years. Add that to my list of projects for ’09!

9. I predict Ephraim will start walking in May. At 18 months. I’m not kidding. Stinkerbug has no interest in being ambulatory.

10. One last link for those of you link-loving fools out there (like me! I’ve learned everything I know from ten on tuesday links…mostly J.J.’s!). Do you know about Bakerella? Oh my – if you don’t, you should. Mandy introduced me to her by way of her Reindeer Pops which, might I add, are DIVINE in addition to being completely and utterly adorable. Yum on a stick.

Jamie was the same way with walking. She turned one and was not interested in any way. She had her big sister to do whatever she wanted. She was 16 months when she finally walked away from something she was holding onto.

WOW! Those folders are brilliant!!!! Smarty pants! I’m feeling re-energized as well in 2009 – fantastic!

KimberlyJanuary 6, 2009 - 2:18 pm

Great idea with the folders!!! And i’m currently on a barstool mission too and i’m finding it to be a difficult process. Did you find any great deals on stools as you were looking?

adminJanuary 6, 2009 - 2:25 pm

Kimberly, I actually found what I was looking for at Target. One of the stools had a small chip in the leg so they came down by 20%…they worked out to about $80 each I think.

TinaJanuary 6, 2009 - 3:16 pm

I think we have the same countertops! (which you can see on yesterday’s post on my *very first* pic a day blog – tinar365.blogspot.com) 🙂 Oh, and walking…Gabby didn’t walk until she was 15 months old. Now Carter…I have a feeling that he’s going to walk before he’s one (and I’m in nooo hurry for him to!) Ephraim probably won’t wobbly around too much though. When Gabby started walking, she took off.

It makes my heart happy that William is Ephraim’s first friend in his book. Miss you and your crazy projects.

I just realized I could click on that link, and presto, HERE is your new blog. I was wondering what I had been missing. Let me fix my sidebar now.

TashaJanuary 6, 2009 - 8:21 pm

OK, I have to make one of those books. I’m soooo Excited. Maybe for my friends baby. What fun. Thanks for sharing.

JenniferJanuary 6, 2009 - 8:24 pm

I think I have the same counter tops too. Barstools at the counter are definitely sooooo much easier. Clean up is a breeze! And you can set them up with a project or task while you’re prepping your meals and still be able to interact with them easily. Much nicer then talking between rooms!

I also use wordpress, and when you find out the easier way of uploading, please share! Love the new blog, Erin.

rachelzanaJanuary 6, 2009 - 9:13 pm

I use those folders for writing portfolios for my kidlets. Each compartment holds the special writings from the year. It is super duper fun to look back at how their writing progresses. My seven year old LOVES looking through hers. What did you use to adhere the pictures to the board book?

j.j.January 6, 2009 - 9:23 pm

i heart ten on tuesdays and love when i find good links, too – off to check yours out!

j.j.January 6, 2009 - 9:23 pm

oh – and i can only hope F takes as long to walk!

JodiJanuary 7, 2009 - 7:55 am

If I had more talent and more time, I would become Bakerella. Thanks for turning me on to her blog, I think I’m addicted already!

michelleJanuary 7, 2009 - 12:12 pm

Erin – why did you switch to wordpress? One of the other blogs I follow did the same recently. Does it allow more flexibility?

Also, was there a way to do a quick upload on blogger? Cause I’m doing one at a time too.

BrittniJanuary 7, 2009 - 1:22 pm

I absolutely love Bakerella!! her and Pioneer Woman top my all time favorite websites! What company did you use to print the images for Ehpraim’s board book? That is absolutely adorable!

JamieJanuary 7, 2009 - 1:23 pm

There is a way. Do you have the latest version of wordpress 2.7, I think? If you do then you can post all of your images at once. Go to the dashboard and click on add new. In there you will see where you can post images, videos etc. There you put in your title and post away!! I hope this helps.

adminJanuary 7, 2009 - 1:42 pm

Rachel, I just used an acide free tape runner…and I used it liberally.

Michelle – there are two reaons I switched to WP; 1. I wanted to attach my blog to my site so that I could harness all the blog hits for better SEO. 2. bigger and prettier pictures. =) Blogger will let you upload and insert up to five pics at a time. After you browse and choose your file look in the toppish part of that window and click on “add another” (or something like that) and another box will pop up for your browse with.

Brittni, I printed those pics with my pro lab (whcc.com) but I’m sure you can print 12×12’s with most major photo labs.

Jaime, I must still totally be missing something. I can upload tons of pics at once but I can’t figure out how to insert them into the post all at once…that part seems really laborious. Is there a better way?

JennyJanuary 8, 2009 - 10:17 am

LOVE LOVE LOVE the board book!! You are full of so many great ideas!! I need to start more projects like that too!

Daniel MendezJanuary 8, 2009 - 4:20 pm

Regarding the photos:
I find it faster if you do not mind having them all bundled as a gallery at the end (or middle) of the post.
Click on upload images while you are working on the post, then when all have been uploaded, click save changes. Then you will see a new tab at the top of the upload window that says gallery. You will see all the images you just uploaded and you can click on insert gallery. Voila!
The bad thing is that all the photos show up as a bundle and not intermingled with your text.

Regarding the book:
Does he now chew on it? Do you have some protective covers?

About the comments.. Why such a small window to see them? 🙁

Congrats on the move to WP and many blessings for this new year.

p.s. If you have more questions re. wordpress or anything, feel free to email us (and I can send you the link to a recent post where we have a gallery and video in the same post)
