ten on tuesday.

1. While The Pigbear may seem like it’s turning into just a Ten on Tuesday blog, I promise it’s not. In fact, big post loaded with pictures coming at you tomorrow!

2. Occasionally my sister posts song lyrics on Facebook a la her 5 year old, Charlotte. Yesterday: “It’s a quarter after one, I’m in the trunk and I need you now.” That made me laugh all day. Thought I’d pass it on.

3. Speaking of my sister, she’s running an Etsy sale for her Facebook fans so stop over and “like” her, then shop Sifted Vintage! (I’m loving this vintage Christian Dior skirt right now…)

4. We’re working on a bit of a backyard makeover right now (complete with filling the mini-sink hole that has appeared under our house) and I was delighted to find that Pottery Barn had all of their outdoor furniture on sale for 50% off last weekend. After almost 11 years of marriage we can finally eat outside without dining on the blue magnet (Academy grads anyone?).

5. Our neighbor Joel had surgery last week to remove cancerous lymph nodes in his neck that we found out had spread from his tongue. We’re all feeling a bit discouraged right now but are praying hard for our friend and I’d welcome if you’d join us.

6. Last week after I asked for some school lunch ideas you guys came through in a big way. I had no idea there were so many awesome resources out there for fun and creative lunches. My faves were ThisLunchRox and Wendolonia. Of course I’ll never be a lunch artist like those girls but they did help give me some neat ideas for keeping healthy foods fun. Last week I sent Ephraim with tortillas cut into letter shapes. The first thing he said when I picked him up was, “I want more tortilla letters!” As an added bonus, he’s learning his letters without fear of a trip to the emergency room.

7. While cruising Pinterest last Friday night I ran across this amazing tutorial for curling your hair without the use of heat. Always a skeptic, I tried it out thinking there was no way it would actually work. Imagine my surprise when I woke up with a head full of curls on Saturday morning! And imagine Brent’s surprise when he walked in the house around 10 p.m. Friday night to find me looking like the Queen of Sheba after a hard day’s night.

At any rate, here’s the tutorial.

8. I picked Ephraim up from school yesterday and found this…

9. Publix? Really?

10. Finally, my friend Jennifer McGuire wants to offer you guys a super cool chance to win a spot in her latest class, Inspiration Showcase. Thank you for the chance to win! I’d really love everything in that class, but the embossing caught my eye. Fun times!

Yes, I would LOVE to take a Jennifer McGuire class!!!

Linsey HAugust 30, 2011 - 7:03 am

Can’t wait to try that hair curling thing! My DD has naturally curly hair but it has grown SO long that it’s weighed it down a lot. This is perfect for a little girl!! She hates having curlers put in her hair!!! 🙂 and I think I may try it myself too!!!

MelanieAugust 30, 2011 - 7:27 am

I am loving all of my photos:) Having them all framed as we speak.

I would love a chance to win her class!

LenaAugust 30, 2011 - 7:43 am

JennyAugust 30, 2011 - 7:53 am

Love the song your niece was singing. I started singing along. And Publix? Really? I would ask the same question. 🙂
Yes, I would love a chance to take Jennifer’s class. I’ve been following since the good old days with Creative Keepsakes. She is extremely talented. Thanks for the opportunity.

kelliAugust 30, 2011 - 7:56 am

I’d love to take her class.
And thanks for the hair video, I have super short hair but I shared it with some of my long haired friends.

JeannineAugust 30, 2011 - 8:13 am

kim schmidtAugust 30, 2011 - 8:19 am

Another great youtube tutorial on no heat curls can be found at http://www.youtube.com/user/Loepsie#p/search/1/3FV-YO46E8Y. I like this because it’s literally on the top of your head, you don’t feel it at night and the curls are nice and wave-esque. My hair doesn’t hold curl super well and this works!!! I’ve done it four or five times (and I actually shower that night, let my hair dry for 30 minutes or so and then put it up without it being completely dry. I tried spraying it with water but that didn’t work at all!)

BrittniAugust 30, 2011 - 8:41 am

My hair constantly stays in the wrap form of the no heat curls tutorial. My curls don’t turn out right but the first part has gotten me soooo many compliments out in public.

Kimberly L.C.August 30, 2011 - 8:41 am

I’m interested in the class and I love that “altered” song lyric! Too funny!

Lisa CAugust 30, 2011 - 8:59 am

Hi Erin, E wanting to work at Publix simply means that he wants to work at a place where everyone is always nice, polite, and great service is offered…plus, they do have one of the cleanest floors around!!!

CamilyAugust 30, 2011 - 9:04 am

Awesome! I would totally love to win…and if I don’t, I’ll probably do it anyway–it looks amazing!
And my hair is up in elastic as we speak. I somehow don’t think I’ll look as amazing as she does, but it could happen.

chesleyAugust 30, 2011 - 9:16 am

my 5 year old used to sing that same Lady A song, and would say “I’m a little shrunk & I need you now!” so funny!!

Kim in VacavilleAugust 30, 2011 - 9:32 am

Love your son’s artwork! I would love to take the class.

AmyAugust 30, 2011 - 9:37 am

I was eyeing the Pottery Barn outdoor seating, too. Love the big sectional couch, but still don’t know if I can drop $1500 on it!

Continued prayers for Joel–must get an update from you!

AmyAugust 30, 2011 - 9:40 am

At least E doesn’t want to work at the Kroger on Drake.

Cardcrazed (Karen G)August 30, 2011 - 4:53 pm

I’d like to enter the Inspiration Showcase to win a spot for my friend. I think she’d like the class, but with her hubby going on a missions trip in October, there’s no money for the class right now 🙁

GramaAugust 30, 2011 - 5:47 pm

I bet E wants to work at Publix because of the “cookie club”!! Probably thinks working there would mean even more cookies! How about a picture of your curly-headed self?

LaurenAugust 30, 2011 - 6:57 pm

Oh the blue magnet! My husband and I are both 99ers, so we have 2 blue magnets that have serves as coffee tables, side tables, kids train tables, etc. Right now I am trying to figure out where to put the two of them. Still very attached to them though! But not displaying them any further. We also just bought nice outdoor furniture after 10 years of marriage!

Jennifer’s class sounds great! Maybe I could learn how to use some techniques to embellish the blue magnet to make it a pretty trunk!

Ellie A.August 30, 2011 - 7:06 pm

OH I am so gonna check those links for lunches. I have to make school lunch for my boys & said this year it wouldn’t be so boring at least I am gonna give it a go. Now about this Class. Jen ROCKS & it would be amazing to be able to join in the fun. Thanks for the chance.

Amanda Jones (taysmommy)August 30, 2011 - 8:20 pm

I would love to attend that class. And your sons future job prospects look so much better than mine. He told some friends of ours that he wants to be “either a big truck driver or a criminal.” He’s not sure yet. I blame his father and his side of the family….

Diane W.August 30, 2011 - 9:15 pm

That class sounds great, would love to win.

MelanieAugust 31, 2011 - 8:31 am

Hi Erin, I tried that curly hair tutorial last night…this morning my daughter asked me if I forgot to brush my hair & my husband said he thought it was a hat kind of day. I guess I’m better suited to straight hair! lol

I’m very intrigued by the curly hair. My hair is probably just long enough to give it a go, but it doesn’t hold curl at all.
And the lunches! I’m entering the world of making lunches every day, so I’m excited to see a world of ideas! Thanks!
