meeting Nora.

When I first learned about blogs back in 2005 I could count on one hand the ones I read. Nora’s was one of them. Months before I even penned (keyed?) a post of my own I knew all about the life of the fabulous Nora Griffin. Nora tells her story in such a compelling, positive, quirky, bright, hopeful, real way that I’ve never stopped reading. She’s crafty and smart and witty and loving. And I knew all of that before I ever even had a conversation with her.

Just over a year ago, Nora emailed me. (Stalker alert: I saved it. It was January 15, 2010). She said she’d noticed quite a few hits coming to her blog from mine and that she had started reading The Pigbear. I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face all day. I know it sounds so silly but blogging is just such a funny thing. You invest your time and interest in someone else’s life; someone who doesn’t even know you exist. And then, one day, when they do – well then it’s like all of a sudden you’re not just watching the show, you’re in it. Craziness.

So. Nora and I are friends now. And I’m totally loving how that sounds. She was so incredibly gracious to me as I planned my trip out west…emailing me, sometimes daily, with helpful tidbits and even images of potential shooting locales. She found me the most amazing place to stay. And then, she invited me over for dinner. Except since “me” included 5 other people, Nora graciously opened her home to all of us. That’s some kind of internet friend.

She and Sean and Mac were just as great asย I imagined they were.

And seriously, Mac? Kids just don’t come any better than that.

He spent the evening alternating between carrying on a completely entertaining conversation with the adults, and playing with Sarah on the floor. I love Mac.

I loved Mac so much that I asked to have my picture taken with him.

That’s better.

(Sarah’s a photographer in progress.)

Nora cooked up the most amazing meal. And she didn’t even flinch when I woefully admitted that I poured myself the last of the ice water from the table, realizing after a very long gulp that it was actually simple syrup. That’s some kind of internet friend. (By the way, straight sugar water? Yes please.)

Griffins, you are amazing. Thank you for the fun, the hospitality, and the sugar rush.

Nora, thank you for being you.

I totally get that about blogging. Always refreshing to hear it coming honestly from someone else!

NoraFebruary 14, 2011 - 10:33 pm

Oh poor Sean and Mac having to live with me now that I’ve read these unreasonably wonderful things. ๐Ÿ™‚

But the best thing I read is, “Nora and I are friends now”…I am so very thankful for that.

don’t you love it when people turn out to be exactly how they paint themselves? i love real people. congrats on meeting your “internet friend” she no longer has to have that name and that’s pretty cool.

Isn’t it wonderful to meet new friends? If her personality is anywhere near as colorful and fun as her home then I’m sure she’s just fabulous! ๐Ÿ™‚

So cool ๐Ÿ™‚
I’ve read Nora’s blog for quite a while…love the inspiration I find. My husband always laughs when I tell him “oh nora did this or that.” He then likes to point out, um honey, you realize you don’t really KNOW Nora don’t you. LoL
Great pics of their family too!

I don’t know how I’ve missed checking out her blog from yours before now, but I’m def in! LOVE Mac’s Members Only jacket, and really love the couch. My living room chair belongs with that couch.

I know Nora is -your- friend and all that, but please please please can she come decorate my house?! I love that wall in her living room! And that green sofa? Fabulous.

Nora is so sweet! And uber talented. Of course I started perusing her blog (which I love and plan to revisit often) and got sidetracked for nearly an hour perusing other blogs she had links to. Thanks for the introduction!

[…] I love every.single.thing about Nora Griffin and I know this class is going to be just as cute and crafty as everything else she does. If you’re ready to get organized for the holidays and be the envy of all your crafty friends, this class is for you. And it’s only TWELVE DOLLARS! Seriously, nothing is twelve dollars anymore. What a steal! But I’m going to save one of you a cool dozen because Nora said I could giveaway a spot! So if you want to nab it just leave a comment down there letting me know who you voted for (JUST KIDDING!) sharing your favorite thing about our awesome country and I’ll throw your name in the hat. I’ll draw a winner tomorrow evening since the class technically started yesterday and I don’t want you to miss much. […]
