as promised

So, obviously I’m not in labor. =) It’s actually totally fine with me. I’m looking forward to a nice, relaxing weekend with my little family of three. We’re going to celebrate an early Thanksgiving tomorrow and get a jump start on decorating for Christmas on Sunday. Sarah and I are headed out to see Bee Movie later this afternoon too! I’m just really trying to soak up every calm, normal, but oh-so special moment with just the three of us before the birth.

Right now I’m scheduled to check in at the hospital at 10pm Monday night for induction. Of course my doctor had to add in the obligatory, “that is, if you don’t go into labor this weekend” to which I had to add the even more obligatory, “HA!”. That’s so not how I roll. =)

Okay, onto photos. I have to say that this could possibly be my favorite room in the house. I had so, so much fun putting it together and finding little things here and there that fit in the space perfectly. I’ll try to share where I got things like I did with Sarah but if I leave something out that you’re wondering about, just ask! I’m certainly not a master decorator (not even close) but I enjoy it and what I enjoy even more is stealing other people’s decorating ideas…so if there’s anyone out there like me, steal away! As my mom always says, “a good idea is always copied.” Embrace it!

(brace yourselves: wonky colors and crooked photos ahead…)

The brief snyposis:

– carpet squares from Flor, my new most favorite online store. I blame Parmy for enabling me. We now have Flor in three different rooms of our house.
– The red furniture is recycled from Sarah’s nursery where it used to be a butter color. Previous to that it was from an unfinished furniture store.
– Little rocking chair was mine as a baby/toddler. I wanted to painted it red but was vetoed by Brent and my mom. (sometimes you win, sometimes you listen to Mom)
Curtain rod and tie backs on sale from Land of Nod.
– Curtains made by moi. And let me just throw in a plug for grommets. Oh my goodness…seriously, SO easy.
– Glider purchased without cushions as a clearance floor model at Pottery Barn Kids before Sarah was born. I’d link it but it’s not even available anymore. I had the cushions cut for her room and then recovered them to match baby boy’s decor. The fabric is called “Tiddlywinks: Jelly Bean”. LOVE THAT. I think I would have bought it sight-unseen just for the cute name!
– The little hanging guy was a gift to Sarah from my stepdad but I loved how well it went in this room so I’ll consider it the first official item stolen from one sibling by another. I’m sure there will be many more to come!
– The tall wooden bookshelf was another clearance floor model, this time for Pier One (their kids line). I bought some green patterned contact paper from Target for like three bucks and papered the back of it just to give it a little more kick. I almost had to divorce my mom, Britney-style, after that project!
The green bins on the shelf are from Target and the red bins are from Walmart.
– Crib bedding was a gift from the people at babyGAP to our new baby. Have I mentioned lately how much I love the Gap? They didn’t have any bumpers left but that doesn’t diminish my love for them!
– The sheep and grass/tally marks on the wall are super-cool rub ons from Blik Wall Graphics that I found via Apartment Therapy:Nursery.
The name banner was purchased on etsy from this seller.

I think that just about covers it…

except for…

drumroll please…

My super-talented, brilliant, book-club-starting, totally-and-absolutely-gifted-at-being-a-friend, friend Liz put together this awesome family tree for the baby. Sarah has one too that matched her nursery perfectly. I loved Sarah’s but I really, really, really love this one. I adore how graphic it is and how it just pulls the space together perfectly. I (and the rest of our book club) have been on her for a long time about offering this kind of custom art to the world and I think we’ve finally got her convinced so if you’re interested in finding out more about how you can get one (for yourself, your kiddo, your baby to be, your parents celebrating their wedding anniversary, WHOEVER) then email me and I’ll get you her info. My email addy is in the sidebar.

By now I’m sure you highly perceptive blog readers have realized our baby boy’s name. It was never really a secret but I guess I just neglected to ever post it here: Ephraim McCray Cobb. You can read about the name Ephraim here. And McCray is Brent’s maternal grandmother’s maiden name. For the record, we’ll be pronouncing the name Ef-rem.

Have a great weekend!

Lovely! Enjoy your weekend with your family of three and best wishes for a safe and healthy delivery.

I’ve never commented before, but I must say I just adore your blog. My little girl is just 8 months younger than yours, and I love following along with Sarah and your family and watching her grow. You’ve given me some great ideas of what’s to come in our lives, activities to try with our girl, books to read, etc. It sounds so silly I’m sure, but I feel like you & I would be friends (if I lived anywhere remotely near you that is). So, thank you!

You’ve inspired me as a mom, and I hope to harass you in the future with photography questions.

Best of luck…Lauren

Okay, I gotta say, I might have been the divorcing if it wasn’t for my grandchildren! I love you! Mom

Wow. What an adorable, thoughtful, love-filled room! I can almost see you rocking him by the window as Sarah plays on the Flor (haha). I love the unveiling of his name in the post too. Great name.

Ohhh, girlie I do believe this decor has hit on a slice of perfection! How absolutely precious. I loooovvee that you went with nontraditional colors.

Speaking of love, I do love the name Ephraim. I’m a HUGE fan of Biblical names. Esp. the boy names. So strong.

Have a great weekend! Job well done! 😉

lizNovember 16, 2007 - 2:53 pm

oh, and for Terry…
My dad always says that all couples should have to wallpaper a bathroom together as pre-marital counseling!

erinNovember 16, 2007 - 3:01 pm

Thanks, all of you! You always know how to make my day!

Cas, the squares in the room are “toy poodle”. The green color is called “lala lime” and the blue is “toto teal”. Have fun with it! Make sure you get their catalog…they have such awesome ideas in there.

Susie PSUNovember 16, 2007 - 3:01 pm

Good pictures, Erin. What a lot of work you have put into that nursery!! You’ll enjoy it as you sit in the glider and feed him. In a few days. Can you believe that…?

AmyNovember 16, 2007 - 3:02 pm

It’s so perfect! I love everything about it and can’t wait to see it in person (with its star attraction!) in just a few weeks.

luvbnmaNovember 16, 2007 - 7:40 pm

What is the family tree made out of? Fabric? Paper? What are the lines (branches) made out of?? Questions . . questions . . .

I love the nursery Erin. Kuddos to Liz for the cool family tree!

erinNovember 16, 2007 - 8:06 pm

The family tree is made out of standard scrapbooking paper I believe. Shoot me an email and I can put you in touch with Liz for more details!

JaniceNovember 16, 2007 - 11:29 pm

Erin, I am just totally INLOVE with everything in your little guy’s room!!!!!!! The colors are amazing. Seeing that bedding makes me want to have another baby (maybe;-)). Seriously, great job on the decorating!

What a cool twist to that family tree!

It looks so fun! I’m a bargain junkie too and Ilove to hear about other people’s buys. It’s funny, I have a brochure for Flor in my purse that I just picked up the other night from Lowes – I was debating but this might have just pushed me over!
I love, love his name too.
Sending lots of good wishes for the coming week.

DaveNovember 17, 2007 - 8:57 am

JenniferNovember 18, 2007 - 7:16 pm

I’ve never commented before either, Erin, but I read your blog faithfully. (I’m an aquaintance of a mom of a babyGap contestant, but I voted for Sarah every day!) You’re such a great blogger and a talented photographer. Your blog inspired me to begin one for my toddler son. (It’s password protected, but I’d be happy to share it with you.)

Love how you decorated your son’s room! Smooth delivery thoughts for you.

GinaNovember 18, 2007 - 9:32 pm

I love the room Erin! So different and fun, you are all going to have a blast in that room.

Love the family tree Liz!

I keep coming back to this post 🙂 I love everything about Ephraim’s little room. I just ordered the same window curtain rod and tiebacks for my nursery…the best $13 I’ve spent! thanks for the link!
