(This post is the last of the pre-calibrated pics. Color is bad. Please forgive.)

We arrived home from Dayton late on the Friday night before Easter. Apparently everyone from Indiana, Ohio and Illinois was traveling down to the beach for Spring Break so the trip was seriously slow going. We pulled in exhausted but happy to be home. I woke up Saturday for a 12 mile training run (the last before my race so there was no blowing it off) and then we set to work on all of our pre-Easter activities.

At the top of our list was sugar cookie baking. Our Dayton trip had prevented us from baking on Palm Sunday (as is our tradition) but there was no way our kids or our neighbors were going to let us forget!

I think Miss Donna stopped by three times on sugar cookie day to see if they were ready yet. Wish I had a picture of that! After the cookies were finished we loaded plates for all of the neighbs, including a plate for our new neighbors who moved into the house next door (the revolving door house – formerly Jake’s, Heather’s, AND Billy/Donna’s). They had only moved in the day before and we couldn’t remember their names just yet so Sarah wrote “new neighbors” on the top. Hee hee.

Every year we use this sugar cookie recipe. It really is the best.

There was little to no mention of the Easter Bunny on Saturday. In fact, I think the first time anyone even brought it up was past bedtime when Sarah crept out of her room and whispered, “Mama, did you forget that the Easter Bunny is coming tomorrow?” Then she scribbled out a note asking for his autograph. This is a recurring theme with Sarah and the Easter Bunny. Don’t ask me why.

Sunday morning they were delighted with their haul…

Somehow the Easter bunny new just what they would each like. Bugles and Skylanders for Ephraim, earrings and iced cookies for Sarah. Along with a new outfit and a chocolate bunny for each of them. Score.

I made the kids wait until Daddy got home from his bike ride (he’s triathlon training) before they dove into their baskets. I couldn’t resist this sweaty shot of him in all his video recording/biker short glory…

And to top it all off, Sarah got the Easter Bunny’s autograph…

After baskets we got to work prettying ourselves up for Easter worship. Our family typically goes to the 8:30 casual, contemporary service at our church. But Easter Sunday service didn’t start until 10:30 so we had all the time in the world! It was fun getting dolled up a bit…

Brent was rocking the bow tie and with a bit of coercion I even convinced Ephraim that a tie was in order for him as well.

Then we set out with Granddaddy in tow!

(It should be noted that after a winter growth spurt all of Ephraim’s pants are too short. But there’s no since in buying him new ones because a larger size won’t fit his waist and shorts season is right around the corner anyway. For this reason he now thinks that pants are supposed to sit 2-3 inches above the ankle so he was highly upset that his Easter pants grazed the tops of his shoes. No amount of arguing would convince him that this was the appropriate way to wear pants. So he spent much of Easter morning hiking them up manually.)

Our church hosted a yummy breakfast before the service which gave me a great chance to document my sweet Easter girl’s shiner…

And my handsome Easter boys of course…

Keeping with the theme, bunny ears seemed appropriate…

And who knows what in the world this is about…

We wrapped up Easter Sunday with a little egg dying. The kiddos were absolutely enthralled. I think this was the first time we’ve dyed eyes since Sarah was a toddler.

Pinterest be darned, we did it the old fashioned way with very little outside-the-box dying save for an ombre egg here and there.

Next year we’ll need to do more than a dozen because as you can see in the very near foreground they didn’t last long. We were barely done dying them before B-Ro was peeling off the first shell!

There you have it…another Easter on the books! As a sweet friend at church would say, “Thank you Lord…for one more day…”

Looks like a beautiful day!

calibrated or not i always enjoy seeing your photos & reading the stories to go along with them! and we don’t do any fancy egg dying techniques either…just a box of the PAAS eggs dye & a dozen eggs! (although this year we used brown eggs & the colors were gorgeous!!)

Kristin BurgeApril 11, 2013 - 8:18 am

Love the photos!
Do you see a blog post sometime in the future on how one calibrates their computer to fix the colors?????? I would love to know how!

Our favorite way to dye eggs is to use food dye! Simple and fun. Oh – and wrapping a rubber band around the egg before you put it in the dye makes for a cool pattern on it!!

Thanks for your blog – love it!
