1. So. Our quick little weekend jaunt to Boston to celebrate Sarah’s 7th birthday turned into a week-long excursion. It seems hurricane Sandy had other plans for us. So instead of flying home on Sunday to celebrate Sarah’s birthday with our boys (and sushi, “seaweed soup”, and a shirley temple per her request), we ended up with three more nights in the Clarks beautiful, cozy, newly renovated home. And as happy as I’ll be to be home, I can’t say it was a bum deal.
2. As I pleaded my case to the United ticket agent on Sunday morning I happened to mention that not getting on a flight that day would mean my baby girl would miss celebrating her birthday in her own home. Flights were being cancelled right and left which made getting home impossible. But that kind lady behind the counter wouldn’t send my girl away empty handed. So with what seemed like a million angry customers in line behind us, she quietly slipped away and came back about 10 minutes later with a plastic bag from the nearest airport gift shop. Inside was a plastic Hello Kitty water bottle and a notebook set. “She had to have a gift on her birthday,” said the kind soul. And then she continued her shift facing angry, travel-weary passengers I’m quite sure. I’ll never forget that.
3. Hopefully we’ll return home tomorrow in time to trick or treat in our own neighborhood. And if we don’t I’ve already promised her that our friends will let her trick or treat them one evening next week. So friends, don’t let us down! Better yet – US Airways, don’t let us down!
4. I missed ToT last week so I have lots of fun things to share. But they’ll sadly have to wait because I can’t figure out the Clark’s durn laptop. Here’s to next week!
