ten on tuesday.

1. Okay people. This girl leaves for NYC tomorrow at 4:30 a.m. And my life motto is in full effect: “if you wait ’til the last minute, it only takes a minute.”

2. I wish I were kidding. Meghan and Heather are sitting here offering to pack my clothes for me. And I just may take them up on it.

3. Although I’m not sure I should trust the fashion advice of a girl who googled “what to wear to Wicked” earlier today. But for the record, I also just googled it and it was surprisingly helpful. So maybe I actually should trust her fashion advice.

4. My sister, mom, aunt and I gave my Grama an iPad for Mother’s Day and she is rocking that thing! At 80 years old she has started sending me long emails on a regular basis. I could kiss Steve Jobs for that! And just today on the phone I almost fell out of my chair when she said, “Now that I’m on the internet so much, I was thinking…I should start a blog. I could write stories about my life and growing up.” AH! She swears no one would want to read it but can you help me convince her otherwise? Please leave a comment here encouraging my Grama to start a blog! And yes, she’s an avid Pigbear reader!

5.  When we got home from the pool today my sister looked out the window and noticed it was raining while sunny outside. I told her the Southern expression for that is “the devil’s beating his wife.” Have you heard that before? I had to take it to google to make sure I hadn’t just made it up. Turns out I hadn’t!

6. With all this blabber on both sides about Chick-fil-a (which Brent has dubbed “chick-fatigue”) I decided today would be a mighty fine day to change the conversation. Let’s talk about Wendy’s instead, shall we? Did you know that the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption funds a program called “Wendy’s Wonderful Kids” that aims to help the longest-waiting children in foster care, get adopted? It does. And it’s wonderful.

7. And since you’re probably already crying, here’s another story that will stir your heart.

8. My experience photography children with Heart Gallery of Alabama was profound last week. I’m still trying to wrap my brain and heart around it all but I know my experience (now and in the future) will change me. And that’s a good thing.

9. Have you fostered children or adopted foster children? Blessing and blessings and blessings on you.

10. On that note, I’m out! This girl’s got some packing to do! =)

I hope your Grama really does begin a blog, I know people would enjoy hearing her stories but most importantly her family and sweet little ones would always be able to read and remember them…priceless!

Yes, Grama, start a blog. How exciting. Have fun. By now you have left for NYC. Have fun. The great thing about NY…no one else cares what you’re wearing. Enjoy Wicked.

I would love Grama’s blog! That record would be priceless. I interviewed my Grandma for a school project, and it’s such a treasure to have that information.

I’m jealous you’re in NYC, my favorite city. Have fun!
Grama, please PLEASE write a blog! I’m certain Erin’s gift of great story-telling must have come from you!

SusanAugust 1, 2012 - 7:36 am

Definitely encourage Grama to blog! I’ll read it. My grandmother died at 99-3/4 and was FULL of stories, of course this was before the days of the blogosphere. Also, the southern expression I always heard growing up in Ky was if it was raining in the sunshine meant that it would rain tomorrow.

I love that Wendy’s supports such a great organization! However, I do think the Chick-fil-a situation is not just blabber, it’s about freedom of speech. But I suppose this is not the right place to discuss this.

Please Grandma PBear Write a blog!!!!
I would give anything to have those stories from my Mom and Grandma written down where I could read them over and over again, what a treasure for your family!

I *so* wanted to attend the photography conference tomorrow (to meet and learn from you!), but it’s my son’s 10th birthday, and I just couldn’t.

Yes, tell Grama to blog! When I went to the BlogHer sponsored Coca-Cola conference last year, that was one of the things they said – “…can you imagine if our ancestors had blogs?” I would love to have read blogs from my grandparents (all four deceased), oh the stories they could tell. And although I have been blogging for over 7 years now, I started (and often continue) for my kids – because it’s the one consistent place where I’m telling our stories.

Grama, please do start that blog! I’m sure it will be full of valuable information. :)

Do it Grama, do it! I interviewed my mom over the course of about six months, and we all just LOVE her stories.

Bruno SchreckAugust 1, 2012 - 11:37 am

As the first male to comment on your Grama’s blog, I should point out that even her grandsons and great grandsons would appreciate her stories. Her reluctance may come from experiencing the impatience that many young people have. But eventually they learn that there are details to the life’s stories that only a mature adult can identify with. So get those details and feeling down on record, illustrate with photos where possible. It’s a way to live forever, and perhaps influence generations never met.

Your grandmother should DEFINITELY do it! Love this idea. And you could do a blurb book of it to save your family stories. LOVE!

Tanya AAugust 1, 2012 - 1:34 pm

I hope your Grama does blog! I’d love to read it!

Also, thank you for sharing the links you did. I didn’t know about the Dave Thomas Foundation but am very happy to know it exists!

DeneenAugust 1, 2012 - 2:47 pm

I wish my grandma’s were still alive and could blog because I would love to hear their stories. Tell her to DO IT and if you link to it I will definately read it :)
I fostered my husbands cousins daughter when she was 2 until she was 4 and went back to mom. I am waiting to hear if I will be yet again fostering her (she is now almost 13) as well as her twins siblings who are 9. They are in another state and if reunification doesn’t work out we will be their forever home :) Please pray for them and us. My babies just turned 18 and are off to college so it will be quite the adjustment but so worth it if that is God’s will. Hugs

I love it that you’re grandmother thinks about writing a blog. I would have loved for my grandmother to have done that, but she passed away about 15 years ago when I was at university and the internet was still something else alltogether…. Also in Belgium when it rains when the sun shines we say “het is kermis in de hel” which translates as ” it’s fair time in hell”….

Kim S.August 5, 2012 - 2:12 pm

Oh, Grama, write that blog!! If I could read my own grandmothers’ thoughts on life, they would be priceless! Just do it!

nancy bootheAugust 6, 2012 - 5:56 am

Grama-

You need to write that blog! If you have even the slightest desire to share your life, it is the nudging from God.

I will read it, and so will many others. The stories disappear so fast. I wish I had my Grandma’s.
