On our Isle of Palms vacation when we’re not beachside, we’re inside. And sometimes that’s just as much fun. The house we’ve stayed in for the last three years seems like it was made for our families. There are three master bedrooms and then a bedroom with two twins (for our two girls) and a bedroom with four twins (for our four boys). Perfect!
Well, at least until bedtime rolls around. Then it just becomes a perfect set up in theory. In reality it looks more like this in the boys room…

The girls’ room usually fares a little better but that’s just because they’re older and have gotten more savvy at hiding their naughty…

I think the mommies need to take notes from our little girls. We haven’t yet mastered such savviness…

For the record, we were watching Burning Love which justifies the wine and giggles.
Also for the record, this next shot is me expertly demonstrating for the ladies how to avoid a double chin in photographs.

Unfortunately that skill also leads you to look like a complete fool. But at least you’re not a double-chinned fool.
While bedtime isn’t always the easiest time for our kiddos, it is the favorite time of day for the grownups. It means two things for us:
drinks…

and “teasers”…

(appeteasers, that is.)
Like in years past each evening one couple is in charge of the meals, while the rest of the moms and dads work on putting kiddos to bed.
Although we do let the kids eat first.

Which is always an adventure.

If you’ve ever been around preschoolers then you’re familiar with the nightly dinner conversation.
Potty talk. Lots and lots of potty talk.
Which, if I’m being completely honest, is not entirely unlike the conversations that go on after they go to bed.
But I’m not being completely honest. So there.
Once again this year the daddy’s took over dinner one evening.

And after much complaining from the mommies about their “homemade” grocery store pie last year, they went the safe route with dessert…

ice cream.

When we’re not sleeping or eating or drinking you can probably find us snuggling,

or baking,

tv watching,

lounging,

but definitely not cleaning up our messes…

It is vacation after all!
On the last night when Mr. Brent made all the kiddos their own special drinks, he let them suck on the sugared lemons he had squeezed,

(while some also chose to lick the bowl)

before enjoying their special treats.

But the real grand finale were the fireworks.
Well, the sparklers. Our crew isn’t yet brave enough for the real thing.

And if you’re wondering why it looks like we’re doing sparklers inside, it’s because we are.

Well, technically we’re under the house in the open carport. The wind wouldn’t allow the sparklers to stay lit in the open air.

But when it comes to vacation with your favorite people, even on one of the most beautiful beaches in the country,
Sometimes inside is just as much fun.
