rediscovering rest.

I feel like I should start this post a little something like this:

Hi, my name is Erin. And it’s been five days since I’ve worked at my desk at night.

Now that my official workstation is at the Cottage I’m finding myself with free time in the evenings. And do you know what? I have no idea how to fill it. I’ve spent so many evenings pecking away at that computer, for so many years, that I seem to have lost my ability to function without a task list. Help me! How do I rediscover my inner sloth???

One thing that I think is creeping up on me is my desire to tackle this house. I love our home as it is. It’s cozy and colorful and it really does meet the needs of our little family. But now that I’m spending a bit more time living in it (versus working in it) I’m noticing a few things here and there that could use a good tweak.

For starters, we rearranged the living room last month. It was a move born of necessity when we realized that Brent’s beloved leather recliner was being horribly bleached by direct sunlight streaming through our back window. So on the day of my non-birthday party, when we should have been busy with party preparations, we were moving furniture. And as a lovely little by-product, the kiddos ended up with their own teensy weensy art station in the corner. For two kids whose toys have always been banished to their own bedrooms (the poor deprived children don’t even have a playroom forgoodnessakes), this was huge.

They’re thrilled with the development. Particularly Sarah who lives, breathes, sleeps art. In fact, she recently told me that she doesn’t care for any sort of sport related activity because it takes away from her art time.

B-Ro on the other hand thinks art is a sport related activity. Hence the need for a wristband to sop up the sweat.

In his defense, he did inherit his Papa and his Daddy’s sweat glands so it’s entirely likely that sweat beads begin forming the minute he reaches for that first colored pencil.

But I digress. Can you please help me rediscover my inner sloth? ย What might I enjoy doing in the evenings?

(Besides rediscovering my inner blogger, of course.)

What are your guilty pleasures? What are all the cool kids doing after 8?

Well….my inner sloth goes something like this:
get the kids to bed as early as possibly (we’re 7:30pm peeps and my kids are 6 and 7). I clean up the kitchen, pick up the odds and end stuff, go through my night time routine (because if I do it later than 8:30, I just don’t do it) and head up to my beloved bedroom.
I so rarely get time to myself. My husband is a sports referee and is gone most evenings. I work full time. I covet the time after the kids are asleep. I read, watch a little TV, read…rarely spending time on the computer. by the time 8pm rolls around, I hate the computer. I’m on one all day long!
Currently, I’m working on redecorating our bedroom to a more relaxing space. Paint, paint and new bedding. Love it! and yes, I have a TV in the bedroom, but it’s my room! who cares!

I’ll be learning more than I probably can comprehend about photography…, however, are already amazing so not sure what you are going to do ๐Ÿ™‚ I guess you’ll probably spend a lot of time figuring out the most comfortable spot on the couch….takes time and patience to find it ya know…..

After receiving a beautiful hand-made card from my husband while he was on deployment #3, I looked up the organization who made it possible for him to send it: . Since then, I have made hundreds of cards for this organization. All cards are sent to all branches of our deployed troops all over the world so they don’t have to find a BX, PX, or any other type of store to send a note home to a loved one. This is what I do in my free time, along with some reading, writing, photography, blogging, and a little t.v.

My favorite book series include:
Mark of the Lion by Francine Rivers
The Bailey Flannigan series by Karen Kingsbury
Hunger Games

Also, any Nicholas Sparks book is always good for a good read.

I am considering doing a fall panitlng schedule. I actually have a bunch of weeks already worked out, but I haven’t figured out how to coordinate it all yet. If I have time, I will be putting it together this fall.
