I love these people.

I believe I’ve mentioned here before how much I love my neighbors. And you’re about to see why.

Last Saturday I invited all my nearest and dearest over to the Cottage for a little painting party. I promised them bagels, coffee, beer and family portraits and wouldn’t you know, that’s all it took. Four hours later this bad boy had two fresh coats of paint and a brighter outlook on life.

(Let it be known, that is most definitely a “before” picture.)

So I have to give credit where credit is due. It never would have turned out so beautifully without the hard work of our fearless foreman, George. Turns out George had professional painting experience in college. Plus he’s a dentist which I assume gives him steady hands. And also, his name is George so he was the logical choice for Foreman. Get it? George Foreman?

Oh nevermind.

(I have no shots of George’s face because he takes his painting very, very seriously. And I appreciate that. He did a bang up job.)

Then we had Miss Donna who told me I should be honored that she attended since she makes it a habit never to 1) sweat or 2) do manual labor.

I love you Miss Donna!

Donna brought her partner in crime, Billy…

who turns out to be a pretty fine bottom trim man, and the perfect partner for Brian…

who turns out to be a pretty fine top trim man.

Seriously, have you ever seen a more perfect pair?

Me neither.

Just outside that room was Steven who was representing our old street in style…

Along with Suzy, of course, who I’ve decided I’d have to hate for being so pretty…

If she weren’t so darn nice.

Then there’s Mr. Joel, who most certainly was not let off the hook just because he had cancer last year. Nope, he beat that junk handily (woot! woot!) so no more special treatment…

In fact, when he tried to tell me that the meteorologist was forecasting the first ever “indoor rain” event on the day we chose to paint the Cottage, I told him I’d also heard there was rain forecasted everyday from now until forever that he wanted me to photograph his children.

Somehow that indoor rain held off.

Finally, we were joined on Cottage painting day by my two favorite coworkers, Marla and Heather.

I’d say we make a pretty fine team.

I’d be remiss if I left out Miss Dawn who brought us all lunch, Jonathan who came and painted for a few hours before catching a 3:00 flight to Romania (no big deal), Jeff who helped us put the finishing touches on the place after the rest of the crew had called it a day, and my cousin Lori who used all 100 pounds of her body weight to help me pull up three rooms of carpet, remove every nail and staple left behind, and unload an entire storage unit of furniture.

And that, in a nutshell, is why I love these people.

They don’t mess around.

* Of course, I can’t forget my love who spent the entire weekend working his butt off taking this place apart and putting it back together again. But the only picture I have of him is from the most amazing moment of the day when I walked into one of the bedrooms to find four men painting shirtless. Ladies, let me just say, it was delightful. And very much like a Diet Coke commercial. But I don’t have their wives’ permission to share. And also, this blog can’t handle that level of studliness. It is a family blog afterall.

That seems so unfair. But can you send the crew to paint my house? They can wear their shirts, if they want………..

As much as I dislike painting, you guys managed to make it look pretty enjoyable!

I wish I lived closer I would have baked some fantastic chocolate chip cookies (or brought Esther Price Candy) and joined in the painting party – I can just picture the shirtless men!!

You do have yourself a mighty fine crew! Can’t wait to see all the finished “after” pics!

What great friends you have! I am curious what color whites you chose? We are in the middle of large home remodel and we are looking to pick colors soon. Although I will be doing color on my walls, there is a great deal of trim and built-ins. I know that whites would help out any indoor photography that I do of my children, so I am hoping that any white I add will make that easier to avoid my flash. Did you put any “professional” thought into your choice of whites? Thanks for any advice.

I’d definitely be curious to hear about paint colors– what you chose for the shooting areas and why.
