Thanksgiving, 2011.

My mom hosted us for Thanksgiving and like every event at her house, it was lovely. The home she and Tom have created together is such a place of rest and peace for me. I love being there.

The kiddos do too.

Ephraim was especially thrilled because Grandad hit a slam dunk with his birthday present this year…

The mother I grew up with never would have allowed such a mess in her home. Heck, the mother I am never would allow it either! There’s just something about a grama’s house that makes everything okay.

We spent the day playing Monopoly, watching the parade, battling it out on Words With Friends, and teaching Sarah to play (and beat us!) at Mancala.

And as has always been tradition, the kiddos made the place cards. Sarah took great care to write out the name of each person present. And then, when we weren’t looking, she added her own personal touch. We didn’t discover what she’d done until after she’d gone to bed for the night. But it made me want to scoop her up and whisper a prayer of thanks for a girl with a heart like hers.

Those little place card addendums were the perfect touch to a perfect table…

It’s hard to believe something so sweet can come from something so squirrely…

Then the morning after, mom announced she would be making stuffing waffles that she had seen on Rachel Ray.

(My mom knows her way around a waffle maker.)

Never one to turn down stuffing OR a waffle (or the chance to eat some more cranberry apple relish) I was all over that.

And it was good.

(And exalint. And osom.)

That picture of Sarah sitting in the chair with the board across it with her pens and paper brings back so many memories. Grama D had a chair just like that one only hers was green and we used it the same way Sarah’s using it…hummm I wonder where your mom got the idea? I think I’m gonna need one of those chairs someday.
