ten on tuesday.

1. I’ve felt on the edge of tears all day today for no particular reason. Do you ever have days like that? There’s something going on in my head/heart that I can’t quite put my finger on and that’s an unsettling feeling.

2.   Have you seen the 50 Rules for Dads of Daughters post that’s been circulating around this week? I was so moved by it. But even more so by the blog that inspired the piece – Life to Her Years. Hey Dads…(yeah, I know some of you are reading) you’re amazing.

3. What I can’t quite grasp or get behind though is Crockpot Girls. What’s the fascination ladies? I mean, I love a good crock pot recipe as well as the next busy mama but the format seems confusing and clunky.

4. Also confusing to me? The Missoni for Target mad dash. Great design, I agree, but sold out in one day? Wow.

5. One of my Aunt Lori’s childhood photographs was featured on Dear Photograph this week. If I knew how to grab a permalink from that site, I’d do it.

6. This morning I had my annual physical and check up (You are doing your annual physical and check up, right? Call today.) I walked a little taller when the doctor dismissed me with a smile and said, “you have the thinnest chart in the office.” I’m all about an ounce of prevention.

7. We came home on Sunday evening to a broken washing machine that wouldn’t drain and spin. After hand wringing an entire load of blankets and throws I knew an immediate fix was in order. So I called on trusty ol’ YouTube and my confidence in the power of being John Keith’s grandaughter . Those are a winning combination I tell you. Washing machine lid switch replacement? Check.

8. There is a serious baby boom going on in Huntsville right now. I’ve photographed four babies in two weeks and have another one scheduled for next week. Hmmm…I wonder what we were all doing last Christmas…

9. Do you remember my little friend Ally? She will triumphantly receive her last chemo treatment on Saturday. Hooray Ally! Here’s to being cancer free!

10. Just a few minutes ago my internet friend Karly hooked me up with this link. Now if that doesn’t motivate me to get back on the Photo A Day bandwagon I don’t know what will.

It’s worth the 8 minutes folks, I promise.

I really needed that video today…thanks for sharing it.

#10 – How in the heck did she just read that without crying?!

heather mayberrySeptember 13, 2011 - 3:16 pm

I saw that video a year or so ago, and went to the library and checked out her book. It’s a great read, especially for anyone with teenagers. It still makes me cry when I watch it, but it also makes me try to savor every day, the good and the bad, the difficult, the wonderful, and the ordinary. Each one is a gift and I hope to never forget that. Thanks for sharing it! Kelly Corrigan’s books are also great reads for moms.

MelanieSeptember 13, 2011 - 5:10 pm

I feel like that sometimes too. It is an unsettling feeling. I don’t get the whole Crockpot Girls thing either. Thanks for sharing the video!

Olivia CSeptember 13, 2011 - 6:02 pm

I am now sitting here a sobbing, blubbering mess after watching that video. I have three kids, 5, 3 and 1. My husband has been in Ireland for two weeks for work and my patience is wearing thin. I needed this tonight! (I am about 7 months behind on my photo a day, due to a move, but I haven’t given up.) What a wonderful reminder to slow down and cherish today, no matter how messy or tiring. 🙂

I had been wondering about that whole Crockpot Girls format, thinking surely they were going to start a website? I love a good crockpot recipe, particularly come December around these parts, but I do not have the time to dig through facebook!

donyaSeptember 13, 2011 - 6:44 pm

Wow is right on the Missoni thing, but I do not get it. I actually don’t even find the designs very appealing. Is something wrong with me? And I agree about Crockpot Girls as well! I’m so confused!

Hi Erin, I’ve never posted a comment but I wanted to say thank you for making me feel like I’m not the only one who is having a day of feeling very emotional! No reason for it but just to let you know I’m the same 🙂

PatriciaSeptember 14, 2011 - 4:18 am

Funny you should mention it………I go for my annual check-up today and always walk out feeling better that it was taken care of. Everyone should take care of their health! Another thing, our second refridgerator went yesterday. Not worth fixing. Old. So we’ll rotate the upstairs one to the garage and now I get to upgrade kitchen to new stainless steal one!!

that video was so touching!! wishing I took more photos when my kids were younger!!

Jen W.September 14, 2011 - 8:21 am

#1–I had a day just.like.that on Sunday. I blamed PMS and all the emotion surrounding the 9/11 anniversary. Not that there has to be a reason or an excuse.
#2–I love, love, love this list! When I remarry again someday, making sure my girls have a good example of #1 will be my top priority.
#5–I saw your aunt’s photo when I followed a link to Dear Photograph via PostSecret and wondered if it was your aunt!
#10–cannot wait to watch this video during my lunch today!

JuliPSeptember 14, 2011 - 11:07 am

I have felt like bursting into tears for no particular reason for a day or two now….maybe it’s the upcoming winter? can’t put my finger on it.
Crockpot girls? I “liked” it, assuming it was going to be so much more than it is….I have now “unliked” it. Surely, others will follow and realize that the reason we use a crockpot is to save time, not to use that 6-8 hours to find the next recipe. Glad I’m not alone with that one….
I’m at work and guess I won’t watch the video for fear of the ugly cry.

Tanya A.September 14, 2011 - 12:09 pm

Wow…this was a 3 cry blog. The dad links and the video at the end … I need a tissue. Oy!

LindseySeptember 14, 2011 - 12:14 pm

No wonder you’re on the verge of tears…”Life to Her Years”…I’m a couple posts in and boo-hoo-ing! So stinking sweet!

Michael Mitchell {liftoheryears.com}September 14, 2011 - 2:06 pm

Hi Erin – Thanks for linking to my blog!!! It’s so cool that people think the stuff I’m putting out there for dads of daughters is meaningful.

It’s nice to make your “virtual” acquaintance and thanks again for the link!

-Michael

P.S. You take great pictures!

P.S.S. If you want to link to your aunt’s picture on Dear Photograph, there’s a place under each picture that says, “23 Hours Ago” or “3 Days Ago” or something similar. That’s where you get the permalink.

JennySeptember 14, 2011 - 6:41 pm

visit crockpotgirls.com and then click on recipes at the top! I was confused too when I “liked” it on FB but I went to their info tab on FB and saw the website. The format is very easy once you go to their site.

I watched the wonderful video and kept thinking that I knew Katrina Kennison from somewhere. Finally had to google. She is the editor of the Best American Short Stories series that my church book group reads. I loved her essay and the pictures with it. Time is here and gone, for all of us.

LaceySeptember 15, 2011 - 8:01 pm

On Tuesday my 20-month-old had emergency surgery … you must have been sensing it. 🙂

Janelle AndersonSeptember 16, 2011 - 9:14 am

Erin, we all have days like that. Don’t feel alone. As for that video…AWESOME. And yes, I cried…a wonderful reminder. Thank you. We move Oct 1st so we will be calling soon. 🙂
