last of the beach. argh.

I’ve resolved to make this post the last about our trip to Isle of Palms back in July. As much as I hate to admit it, life moves on. Boo.

One of my favorite memories from the beach was cooked up by Steve and the boys while on their pub tour outing. I’m not sure good ideas are always hatched over lots and lots of drinks but in this case, it was true.

So what was the daddies grand plan? A real live treasure hunt.

The kiddos ran down to the beach with map in hand to follow the trail to the X.

Trouble was, the daddies left lots and lots of x’s.

Some were not pleased with this decision.

Others were just happy to be there. Two year old ignorance is bliss.

After pouring over their map the kiddos set out in small search parties to start their digging.

Finally B-Ro and William hit on something hard in the sand and beckoned the other scavengers over.

And then…

the moment of truth.

When the children discovered the glass jar filled with large, flat, shiny coins they immediately started crying, “chocolate! it’s chocolate!”

Um…

Sorry kiddos.

Maybe next time.

This time they really were just large, flat, shiny coins. From the China via the Dollar Tree. But the request for chocolate has been noted for next year.

What fun! And, I’m just as behind on mine photos as you are. I do not blog, but my one frame a day album and our everyday albums are dreadfully behind!

Caroline looks literally disgusted with the whole thing….too many X’s and then no chocolate. The last pic of her is priceless – “are you kidding me, what a waste of my time” LOVE IT!

How fun is that??? I think the mommies deserve a treasure hunt, too, though…say one that ends at the Coach outlet…

I’m laughing so hard. Thank you for sharing this! Poor kids, thinking they got chocolate when really it was just a bunch of fake money. We did a scavenger hunt like this for my younger son’s 4th birthday party (pirate themed), and it was a huge hit, even though it rained cats and dogs, and the wooden treasure chest (wrapped in 2 trash bags and duct tape) was full of water when dug up. It contained plastic pirate money and mardi gras beads. Inside the house, we had chocolate coins, which my husband, dressed as Captain Hook, pretended to extract from the kids ears, like a magician. For 2 weeks after that, my 4 yr old kept coming up to him or me, with his head cocked to the side so we could see his ear, and asking if we could get him a chocolate coin.
