The house is quiet. The children are at church with their Daddy while I’m home nursing a tummy bug. I’ll admit to being a little bit thankful for being a little bit sick this morning. It’s helping me to keep my mind off of this…

This morning I’m trying not to think about that sweet baby with the chubby cheeks and chapped lips.

The one who was born at 7:17 a.m. on a sunny day in Colorado. The baby who had her first taste of snow at just a year old, wearing  a fuzzy purple snowsuit bought on the cheap via Ebay.

Who broke her leg just days after her first birthday and still managed to keep a smile on her face and push a plastic shopping cart around to the delight of her Daddy manning the video camera.

What happened to the 15 month old who won her family a trip to Hawaii with her adorable mug in the baby Gap Casting Call?

Time seems to have erased that almost two year old who toddled into Huntsville and ventured off to her first day of Mom’s Morning Out without me.

Who I wrote a heartfelt letter to before she met her squishy, bruised up baby brother at 25 months and showed us that two year olds really were capable of love and patience.

Somewhere along the way I lost track of the shy toddler with the sweet smile who was too awestruck upon meeting Cinderella to look her in the eye.

It seems like just yesterday that that girl turned three. But somehow, it wasn’t.

And it wasn’t just yesterday that we loaded up for our first girls’ date to eat sandwiches with fizzy pink lemonade at Lynn’s Gracious Goodness before heading off to a princess ballet. But I swear it feels like it.

Somehow, someway the baby who screamed in my face but magnified my heart almost six years ago has been here for just that…almost six years.

My smiley, fiercely independent, sweet-spirited baby has turned into a quirky, able-bodied, sweet-spirited little girl.

And tomorrow she starts kindergarten. So much for keeping my mind off of things.

wow, almost 6, that is AMAZING, time sure does fly!
it goes fast! my baby just turned 10, double digits. I wasn’t ready! and now mine are in 5th & 6th grade, only thing is, we homeschool so I don’t have to think about being away from them all day long anymore!
she’s so beautiful!!!
enjoy her being this small because I tell you in 4 years from now, you will look back and see age 6 as being tiny still! at least you can still carry her at this age! love love love these pix!

Stephanie @ La Dolce VitaAugust 7, 2011 - 10:19 am

oh but it goes so so fast! She is beautiful – enjoy these days. Because almost six turns to 10 in a hurry … but they’ll always be our babies, and our hearts will always hold these memories. Good luck tomorrow Miss Sarah!!

SamanthaAugust 7, 2011 - 10:20 am

Happy 1st day sweet Sarah!!!!! We love you!!! You are going to knock ’em dead!!!

Elizabeth JAugust 7, 2011 - 11:16 am

What a special post full of sweet memories…beautiful memories, thanks for sharing. Happy first day of school!

Jessica WAugust 7, 2011 - 11:23 am

Feel better! Oh and thanks so much for reminding me that MY little girl is closing in on 6 too. At least we have 17 days til school starts. Not that I’m counting.

j.j.August 7, 2011 - 12:11 pm

Oh it does go too fast doesn’t it. Thankfully we have another 4 weeks here and then Alla will be gone all day from me but I am definitely.not.thinking.about.that.

MichelleAugust 7, 2011 - 3:01 pm

I’m so in touch with your emotion. But for me, it’s my youngest off to Kindergarten…my baby girl…on the bus with her three big brothers. I’ve been putting it out of my mind too. Good you have B-ro to keep you company! I’m not sure if I’m ready for the adjustment either!!

heather mayberryAugust 7, 2011 - 4:10 pm

what a sweet and sad post. I remembered all of your links! that’s an accomplishment, right? they grow so fast. i will be praying for you tomorrow, i hear that it’s harder on the mamas than it is on the kids. it’s funny that you went from teaching kindergarden to being on the other side and sending on to kindergarden. good luck and feel better!

Erin H.August 7, 2011 - 5:48 pm

hope Sarah has a great first day! i bet she will love it…

Carol MoyerAugust 7, 2011 - 5:57 pm

Boy do I remember that day so many years ago. How at the bus stop Sara told me I could only cry until the bus was out of sight, and I told her that it wasn’t because I was sad, but because she was so grown up. In just a matter of 17 days she will be a sophomore in high school, but we will always remember the WONDERFUL person who started her in the first year of school! Thanks Erin!!!!!!

Jenny ZollarsAugust 7, 2011 - 7:35 pm

Thinking of you Erin as you face this oh so important day! Brady starts KDG on September 6th and it’s full day which makes my heart ache thinking of him away from me all day!! Good luck to Sarah and to you. Can’t wait to see the pictures and read about her day.

AnneAugust 7, 2011 - 7:45 pm

What a sweet big girl! She is going to do so well in kindergarten – she has been living with the best teachers for 6 years now.

Just keep breathing! You will be fine too.

(p.s. my baby girl start high school tomorrow!)

Kelly W.August 7, 2011 - 8:49 pm

So, so sweet. I am sure she will love kindergarten! My oldest daughter starts kindergarten next week, too. Such a big (but fun!) step!

AmyAugust 7, 2011 - 9:49 pm

I.can’! Good luck tomorrow, mama, and lots of love to Sarah!

BreeAugust 7, 2011 - 10:19 pm

I feel your pain. Mine starts on Tuesday. This is not my first send-your-child-to-kindergarten rodeo, but this time is a little bit harder. She is so ready, and I am going to miss her. But I know that she is going to be awesome, and it is because we let them go.

Happy 1st Day of Kindy Sarah!

MichelleAugust 8, 2011 - 12:50 am

Your words tell an emotional story. Love the look back into your baby’s life. It really does go too fast.

Olivia CAugust 8, 2011 - 5:29 am

Oh my. You have me crying already! I am going through the exact same thing. My sweet first born starts Kindergarten in a week and a half. He has two younger sisters and sometimes I feel like the last couple of years are just a blur…and now he is going to be gone from me all day, 5 days a week. I will no longer be the person he spends most of his waking hours with. Good luck as school starts this year. We will need to be praying for ourselves and all the other mommas in the same boat.

marianAugust 8, 2011 - 5:54 am

Sarah is going to be a rock star in kindergarten! You and Brent are awesome parents who have more than prepared her for this big day. Can’t wait to get a report all about it!

DebbieAugust 8, 2011 - 9:52 am

I hope you are feeling much better today. Dying to see the first day of Kinder pictures! I can’t believe I’ve been watching Sarah since she was not even a year old!

Jennifer @ bug and the sweet bananaAugust 8, 2011 - 10:18 am

Oh, goodness. Strong mama. What a wonderful tribute. My almost-six-year-old starts kinder in two weeks. I’m a wreck about it. Can’t wait to find out how Sarah’s first day went!

tanyawebsterAugust 8, 2011 - 11:39 am

girl, it doesnt get any easier. I hate to tell you that but honestly it just doesnt. SOO SOOO glad you soak it all up and live in the moment as much as you do because really it does go by in the blink of an eye and (in my case) you wake up with an almost 13-year-old and wonder how in the world that happened!! *sniff sniff* hugs to you friend. XOXOXOXO

TinaAugust 8, 2011 - 12:51 pm

Love this! Gabby starts next Monday, and even though she’ll be at my school with me it’s still bittersweet! They grow up way too fast!

StephanieAugust 8, 2011 - 1:49 pm

I’ll be in your shoes two weeks from today and it makes me sad already. I can’t believe that Zach is already old enough to be going to kindergarten, it goes by too fast! I’m sure I’m going to turn around and it’s going to be two years from now and his younger brother (my baby) will be starting school as well. I hope that you are feeling better and that Sarah had a fantastic first day of school.

AnonymousAugust 8, 2011 - 3:19 pm

I have a baby starting kindergarten this year too. And yeah. I hate it. They grow up way too fast.
