ten on tuesday.

1. We’re having a fabulous time in Isle of Palms. We’re on Day Four with four days left. I guess that means we’ve reached the halfway point but I’m unwilling to admit it.

2. While today might be the halfway point, yesterday was the low point – I was stung by a stingray as I walked out of the ocean. I felt the barb go into my ankle and knew instantly it would be bad. By the time I reached the shore I was a puddle of tears. After limping back to the house we quickly realized a trip to the ER was in order. I was in excruciating pain by that point and wanted to do anything that might make the pain stop. After a couple of hours of soaking my foot in a hot bath, two Oxycodones, a shot of Lidocane, a tetanus shot booster (bonus that it vaccinates me from Pertussis too!), two antibiotic scripts and a nice long nap I was back in working order. For what it’s worth, I don’t recommend hanging out with stingrays. And I may never get in the ocean again.

3. Should you ever find yourself in the unfortunate position of having a stingray barb you, soak your wound in water as hot as you can stand it. My first reaction was to put ice on it and that’s what I was doing when I arrived at the ER. The admitting nurse immediately made the switch and I can’t even tell you what a difference that made in my pain level. Stingray wound = hot water. Don’t forget.

4. I had a session scheduled for 5:00 yesterday evening which Brent was quite sure I wouldn’t be able to do. The family was driving in from 2 1/2 hours away though and I couldn’t stand the thought of disappointing them. Thank goodness the nap and meds worked! The session went off without a hitch and the family was absolutely lovely (and totally understanding about the possible need to adjust our session)!

5. Currently the daddies are down at the beach with the kiddos while the mommies are lounging with books Kindles and laptops. And drinks. We just arrived home from a jaunt into Charleston and rumor has it we’re being treated to a gourmet Daddy meal (read: burgers) tonight after the kids go to bed. It’s safe to say today made up for yesterday.

6. Sarah and Caroline are sharing a room here and they happen to have a television in it. They turned it on on the day we arrived and discovered it was set to the weather channel. Needless to say we’ve been getting rather frequent weather updates throughout the week. (Considering Sarah’s history with meteorology this should come as no surprise). In case you were wondering, today was “dangerously hot”. We’re all on high alert, thanks to a couple of five year old girls.

7. Speaking of meteorology, my favorite Pigbear-reading meteorologist Donya sent me an invite to Google+ yesterday. Is anyone else there yet? I haven’t had a chance to sign up but I’m excited to look around. Good? Bad? Ugly? Pray tell.

8. If you clicked on Donya’s blog link you may have noticed she has a very similarly named son. Power to the Ephraims!

9. Occasionally when I meet people who read this blog I realize that a lot of your don’t know how we pronounce our son’s name (such was the case at my session yesterday). It’s such second nature to me that I never considered that there are probably lots of people who are a bit unsure of how to say it. We pronounce his name Eff-rum. Some say Eef-rum. But not us.

10. And yes, we got it from the WB.  And now you know. 😉

Thank you SO much for the fun time yesterday at our photo session. It was a pleasure and you were a delight. You are right, I would have been so disappointed if we wouldn’t have been able to see you but would have totally understood. So glad that you are feeling better today.

Love that you found the name on the WB:)

I’m so glad you’re okay! A stingray wound sounds horrible.
I loved the show Everwood!

So glad you’re better and the session went well. Can’t wait to see that sneak peek – isn’t Melanie beautiful? (and yes, I remember Sarah’s turn as weather girl – SOOOO cute!)

I loved Everwood and I love that you got his name from there. LOVE IT.

So sorry-I am not so much an ocean fan myself. Heebie Jeebies. Although Elizabeth did have a $20 bill float into her hand once, so you never know. Totally wondering about Google+ as well. And finally, I always wondered if that was where you got it! I LOVED Everwood (and love that what’s his name is now on Parks & Recreation 🙂

I’m going to be setting up my Google+ account tonight! Trial by fire, in this case! Glad your stingray encounter had a quick resolution…I NEVER would have guessed hot water!

Since I’ve already got a gmail account, it just integrates in with that. And sorting people is a lot easier in google+ than with fb. But there isn’t an iPhone app yet. So I’m not as heavily into it yet. We’ll see I guess. Thanks for the tip on pronouncing his name, I always heard it (in my head) with a long e sound. 😉

Hi Erin, We are still out west (exactly one month tomorrow) on a huge road trip. Colorado, Wyoming, Utah…it’s been wonderful! However, I’ve been totally out of the loop on the Internet…not a bad thing…but I finally got on your blog. So sorry to hear about the sting ray ordeal, how scary!!! I’m glad to hear that you are doing better. I hope you are having a wonderful trip besides that. Big hugs. Let’s catch up soon. Love, J

Glad your stingray wound is better! Lounging by the pool with books and Kindles and laptops sounds marvelous.
And I just got on Google+ today…kind of fun, except when I found only like 12 people on there that I know, and it’s a pretty random bunch 🙂

Too bad about the sting ray, I’m glad you’re ok. I rarely go in the ocean I have this crazy feeling some shark is gonna get me, plus I don’t know how to swim. But I love playing in the sand with the kids, LOL.

It’s funny the only reason I know how to pronounce E’s name is because of a video you posted of him as a baby and you say his name in the background. I love his name had never heard it till you named him.

We honeymooned in a little town called Ephraim in Door County, Wisconsin (probably the only DRY town in Wisconsin too!).

KariJuly 13, 2011 - 1:35 pm

Okay, so I was just on Pinterest, and this image popped up, and I thought it was Ephraim! But then I saw it was from 2007. How old is your little guy? Here was the photo:

Kari, that does look a bit like Ephraim…especially the eyes! It’s not though. Ephraim was born in November of 2007 and now he’s 3 1/2. =)

What an unfortunate beach incident. So glad to hear you are on the mend!

LaceyJuly 15, 2011 - 8:49 pm

I’ve always wondered if you got it from the WB!! Since I assumed you did, I always pronounced it correctly when reading your posts. 😉 Haha!

I’m SO glad you’re okay after your encounter with the stingray! Scary stuff!
