ten on tuesday.

1. The kiddos are still with my mom and I “slept in” to the sound of rain and thunder until 7:30. I think I’ve officially become one of those people who can’t sleep past 8. I’m good with that.

2. The constant rain has made today a bun-wearing kind of day. I had a bun in my hair on Sunday when we drove home from the beach too but that was because I hadn’t had a shower. So if you see me in a bun it’s either because it’s raining or I’m greasy. Maybe both.

3. Yesterday I met Amanda for “lunch”. We ended up hitting a handful of the Mom About Town hotspots and I arrived home in time for dinner. Now that’s what I call a successful day without kids!

4. This afternoon I plan to give Sarah’s room the ol’ what for. Whatever that means. I’ve always wanted to say that. What I mean is I plan to go in with a dozen garbage bags and a hazmat suit and not come out until I’ve pruned that place into some semblance of a child’s bedroom again. I fully embrace my daughter’s creativity but I do not fully embrace the mess it leaves me with.

5. On Saturday evening while at the beach I swiped my stepdad’s laptop and wrote an article for The Creative Mama titled “Seven Ways to Sabbath”. Check it out if you’re so inclined.

6. As I type my computer is backing up both of my blogs AND uploading images to Shutterfly dating back to summer of last year. I’ve been bad. I’m bound and determined to print a whole slew of snapshots this week. I seriously lay awake at night and worry about losing images. At least if I print them I’ll have a hard copy should something crash digitally.

7. Did you know that Shutterfly archives indefinitely? I have an album on there dating back to 2003 featuring Ron and J.J. You can’t really beat that for a poor man’s online backup!

8. Have you heard about DearPhotograph? Sweet Jenny Zollars alerted me to its awesomeness. The only downside is that it left me asking that age old question, “why didn’t I think of that?”

9. I picked up a little light beach reading in Panama City last week – The Intimate Lives of the Founding Fathers. Okay, so it’s not “light” but it is juicy!

10. I’m already thinking about my next half marathon, probably in the fall. I might be willing to travel for this one if the course is fast (I’m aiming for a 2:00 PR). Anyone know of any good fall races? Chicago? Boston? Somewhere else that might also lend itself to beautiful fall portraits? Might as well kill two birds with one stone, right?

I don’t know of any fall half marathons but have you thought about the Seaside Half-marathon in Seaside, FL? Its usually in March and the major sponsor is Vera Bradley. Its pretty awesome to be handed a limited edition Vera Bag when you cross the finish line 🙂

I save all my pics to CD’s and stash a copy in my safe deposit box. It’s also full of old negatives – remember those? If there is ever a fire, my kids baby pictures are safe! 🙂

I cannot for the life of me think of what pictures you have on Shutterfly! I don’t even think The Killins’ owned a digital camera in 2003!

I have seen Dear Photograph going around this week and am going to try to re-create one myself next week on our Cape Cod Ma vacation with my son on the beach. Loved the idea!! I’m sure you’ll have plenty to re-create yourself when the kiddo’s get older!

There is another Rock ‘n’ Roll 1/2 marathon in Savannah, GA in November. Could definitely be a cool place for some portraits (maybe not terribly fall-like, but lots of great scenery!)

Annapolis is having their first ever half marathon on November 19th…that might be a little bit too close to the holidays though for you? But it’s still beautiful here in late November!!! Thanks for the shout out on ToT. I love Dear Photograph, makes me smile and tear up all at once!

This 10 on Tuesday is crazy for me today Erin. I seriously have to give both my girls’ room the ol’ what for…I’ve never said that before, so not sure if I used it correctly! lol There rooms seriously scare me.

I was up last night worrying about my old pictures too and how I don’t have my photo albums up to date. I use crashplan to back up, but I don’t have hard copies right now, which is something I want to work on this Summer.

Thanks for the book suggestion! I just requested it from the library. I just finished reading “Secret Daughter” by Shilpi Somaya Gowda over vacation last week. I thought it was really interesting.

Right here between Austin & San Antonio, it’s the beautiful Texas Hill Country! I think you’d find a whole crowd who’d love to meet you & give you the full Texas welcome, but also what a compelling race beneficiary: families & children!

Chicago is FAST! I am not sure if Sept. 11th counts as fall but there is a half marathon. I will be running it and would love it if you made it up this way… I would love a session and if you are avaiable “for hire” some tutoring would be great). Why don’t you run the full marathon in October? It will be my first full marathon… you have all this training under your belt you should join. The registration is full but there are other ways to get a bib (sponsors, fundraising etc). Can’t wait to hear your choice! KM Chicago

The Baltimore Running Festival is October 15th!
I would love for you to come up this way! It might even encent (is that even the right way to spell it?) me to start running and train for the 5K!
Plus I would LOOOVVVVEEEEE to do a fall session with you!!!

I vote for a fall half marathon in Texas. Austin, San Antonio, or DFW. That way we can reschedule our photo shoot…so what if Texas doesn’t actually have seasons? You’re probably looking for beautiful fall leaves for your portraits, but those are just minor details, right? And it’s unlikely we will get rained out like last time since Texas is experiencing severe drought conditions!

I think there is a Rock n Roll Marathon in St. Louis this fall….but I think you would also have to do some mini sessions too! 😉

please please please please don’t do shutterfly. I understand the draw but the photos we had on there from when ty was little and ordered, they are already falling apart and it’s only been less than 10 years 🙁 We lost the digital copies to hurricane katrina. a print should last longer than that and it’s worth an extra $1 to be sure it does.

You should do the one in Athens, OH. Nice moderate weather, and the whole half-marathon course is extremely flat, so times are always better for it!

How about the San Antonio half? It’s flat and usually fast and cool. Have you checked into an online back up service like Mozy? It uploads all your files (may take weeks to get all the Gig’s uploaded), but then automatically monitors all new files and uploads them for back up.

yay for no kids and a girl’s day! so fun! i am currently training for my first half marathon. the one i’m doing is in the outer banks, nc on november 16th (obxmarathon.com). it’s a beachy run so it’s pretty flat except for crossing the bridge. there is also one in wilmington the first week in november. there is also one in nashville around then. that’s all i remember. just check active.com, it’s the easiest way to find races. happy tuesday!

DC has a great marathon/half (the Marine Marathon) in the fall and the colors are georgeous that time of year. At least I hear it is a good one as I’ve not been inclined to participate, just support! But selfishly I vote for you to come to TX!
