friends like these.

In 2007 we moved into our house and first met our dear neighbors, Dawn and Joel, who live across the street. Dawn was pregnant, I was pregnant, and our two little toddler daughters became fast friends.

In 2008 I ran out to my driveway to flag down the cute couple who was looking at the rental house next door. Heather was holding 7 month old Jagger, I was holding 8 month old Ephraim. She and Brian moved in and we all became fast friends.

In 2009 the neighbors spent almost every summer day and evening at the pool where we got to know George, Trina, and their son Will. Trina gave birth to baby Wesley that fall and their family became “the annex” to our little band of street friends.

In 2010 we started seeing Lacy and Graham almost every gameday when our neighborhood crew would drag every flat screen TV, plastic chair, and every motorized child vehicle out into the driveways. They easily endeared themselves to our little ragtag group.

And while I don’t want to deny any blessings that 2011 has to offer, I think it’s safe to say all positions have been filled…

On Friday night George and Trina invited us all over for an early Christmas dinner. It was lovely.

But like all occasions that involve this group, it quickly turned raucous.

And while I can’t tell you just what was so hysterical (family blog, remember?), it was funny enough to make a grown man cry.

Make that men.

And the women?

We just shielded our faces with napkins,

before beating our husbands with them…

I love these crazy, rowdy friends of mine. This neighborhood sure would be a lonely place without them.

A quiet, calm, lonely place.
