on notice.

Okay people, the picture stealing has gone too far. If you’ve been around here long (or any well-known photog’s blog for that matter) then you realize it’s not uncommon for images to be stolen from one site and used for random purposes on another. It’s annoying at best, rage-inducing at worst but unfortunately it’s one of the nasty facts of life when operating in the digital age. But I have to ask, is nothing sacred?

Apparently there is an image of my husband, father, and father-in-law gracing the 103rd page of the longest thread ever to hit the TigerDroppings.com message board. Nevermind why I know someone who would get to the 103rd page of a thread on an LSU fan message board. The point is, I’m glad he did.

And the other point is, WHAT?! Is nothing sacred people?! You know I had to get a screen shot. For my attorney and all. And also because as much as I want to be annoyed, it kind of made me giggle. Okay, not kind of. More like, it made me laugh out loud.

See in the midst of whatever argument these neurotic sports fans are having about college football someone tries to take a shot at an Auburn girl on the forum by asking her, “would you hit any of these three guys?” I’ll admit that for the last 24 hours I’ve been confused by the question. Why in the world would a girl want to hurt any of these poor unsuspecting men? But then my husband kindly pointed out that he didn’t think I had the correct understanding of the question. And my dad said I needed to spend more time in the halls of America’s high schools to get “down with the vernacular.”

Then the scales fell from my eyes and I saw the question in its intended light.

And after I picked my jaw up off the floor I smoothed my skirt, straightened my posture and thought, “as a matter of fact, BradPitt, poster-on-the-103rd-page-of-what-might-be-the-most-ridiculous-message-board thread-of-all-time, yes. Yes, I would. The one in the middle thankyouverymuch.”

Bet Mr. BradPitt, poster-on-the-103rd-page-of-what-might-be-the-most-ridiculous-message-board-thread-of-all-time, didn’t see that one coming did he? Then again, he didn’t think I’d ever see this thread.

Dude, bad move. I’ve got eyes all over these internets. And I’m putting you people on notice. No more stealing pictures from my blog.

And hands off my Dad.

Wow Erin this is wild. I know you are cringing – to say the least. So are you going to start watermarking your pictures on your personal blog? I sometimes think about doing that….but then I wonder if it would do any good anyway. How do these creeps do this? And, I thought ProPhoto had a left-click, right-click disable? I guess there are folks out there that really know how to work the system, though, huh? Crazy. So sorry.

O-h -m-y-g-o-s-h! ! !
I had to giggle at the *hit* part, even those this entire post shocked the heck out of me.

LisaDecember 5, 2010 - 8:21 pm

Did your dad ask what the replies were? Actually, did any of them ask?

MelanieDecember 5, 2010 - 8:37 pm

Girl that is to funny. The part that you didn’t know what ‘hit it’ meant! You are 32 yrs. old! You should know that:) LOL! I am 42 yrs. old and I know what that means. I don’t know what that says about me. WAAAHHH!

Anyway, what is not funny is the stealing of the pictures. Who takes pictures randomly to post on a sports thread?

And glad to know that you would ‘hit it’ with the middle dude:)

SuzyDecember 5, 2010 - 8:39 pm

I asked the same question Erin…..how long did it take you to get to the 103rd page!!

GamecockDecember 5, 2010 - 8:54 pm

Step 1: Photoshop a picture disparaging Alabama fans and/or BradPitt

Step 2: Publish said picture to the same web address of the photo tigerdroppings is hotlinking.

Step 3: Enjoy

That’s horrible Erin! Good job calling them on it though – hope it doesn’t happen again!

KimberlyDecember 5, 2010 - 9:36 pm

Ok, you are way too innocent! But that’s a good thing!!
And good for you for calling him on this! Some people just really suck, for lack of a better term.

AmyDecember 5, 2010 - 10:42 pm

Seriously?!?! Craziness. Go get ‘em girl!

donyaDecember 6, 2010 - 5:21 am

You are hilarious, Erin! But it sure is sad that someone would do this. Just plain rude.

JennieHDecember 6, 2010 - 6:56 am

I don’t know whether to laugh or be horrified. And I will admit at first when I read what was asked on top of the picture I thought they meant hit as in bodily injury too so don’t feel bad. And no I don’t think anything is sacred anymore.

LaraDecember 6, 2010 - 8:04 am

WTJ??? (What the junk, in the high school vernacular of my niece.) Of course, the photo stealer is obviously one of your readers, so to that person, I say…well… WTJ???

StephanieDecember 6, 2010 - 8:46 am

Wow! How much time do people have on their hands to go around copying and posting your photos – and for that reason too? Forget about them – they obviously have nothing better to do. Like to see them post their own photo and see how many people would “hit” that!

Amy in ALDecember 6, 2010 - 9:53 am

You have GOT to be kidding me – this is the craziest thing!! Who does that?! I got all fired up for you – you go get ‘em girl! Sheesh. (Although I still got a giggle out of your post – you are too funny!) :)

Lorena MoraDecember 6, 2010 - 10:19 am

Ok after I stopped laughing on the “hit” part, I wondered why in the heck people steal photos. That’s one of the reasons I haven’t started a blog and since I’m not computer savvy I wouldn’t even know how to watermark or make it so you can’t click and copy the photo. Well hopefully that doesn’t happen again.

HuyenDecember 6, 2010 - 11:30 am

It’s time to get some cyber protection on all the pics you post and unfortunately we all have to be careful what pics we post.

Kinda cute how innocent you are that you didn’t know about the quote from that message board.

Ignorance is bliss sometimes.

CamilyDecember 6, 2010 - 12:09 pm

Seriously. First I couldn’t figure out why someone would want to “hit” any of those nice guys? I didn’t know what “hit” meant either! I guess I’m just cool like that.

AND–I can’t believe that someone actually goes around stealing pictures. I mean, I know it happens, but it is SO NOT right! Mr BradPitt–shame on you! You are definitely on Santa’s Naughty list!

The Prairie HenDecember 6, 2010 - 12:11 pm

Dear Married To A Hit-Man,
How RUDE! And wrong! Oh, (sorry) and just a tad funny! I guess that’s why I started watermarking all my pix… hopefully it will deterr a few people… if it’s doesn’t and they use it anyway at least I get the credit! :) Small consolation for the theft and unauthorized use, I know.
Good luck chasing him down!

Love,
Marking My Territory in NE

Sorry about that! That is just plain RUDE! Although I have to admit that I still have no idea what they are insinuating.. insert sheepish grin

JenniferDecember 6, 2010 - 4:03 pm

OMG that’s hilarious – in a not at all funny to steal someone’s pictures kind of way. FYI – check out Urban Dictionary any time you have a question about lingo. You’ll probably learn stuff you never wanted to know. ;)
