Daphne has been my friend for 19 years.

We passed notes in middle school. And referred to one another by hideous nicknames.

We endured the divorces of each of our parents. And their remarriages. (Hers remarried each other).

We slept over countless times.

We traveled across Europe together, along with the rest of our 6 best friends – The Six Sardines.

We “played” on the same volleyball team. And sat the bench together too.

We drove 12 hours to be at port when someone’s (I’ll never tell) Navy boyfriend returned from a 6 month cruise.

We went to college miles apart and kept in touch at a time when email was an infant and Facebook just an embryo.

We celebrated my wedding. (She was a bridesmaid).

We celebrated her graduation from physical therapy school.

Then my body grew a couple of babies, and she grew one in her heart.

And now, 19 years later, we raise sons.

And if I do say so myself, we do a pretty darn good job at it.

But Daphne does it on her own – beautifully, humbly, awesomely.

And for that, she’s my hero.

(More from Daphne and Ben’s session coming soon on the business blog.)

Love that you’ve been friends that long & that you can raise your sons as friends. I have a few long-time friends too, and even though they all live away from here I know we’ll always be friends. Beautiful words, as usual!

So it’s hard to type through my tears. Thank you, sweet friend. Your words are amazing and have touched my heart more than I can really tell you. I love that we have shared so much in the past 19 years and can’t wait to see what the next 19 years hold….school, girlfriends, break-ups, sports, driving (scary stuff). There are only a handful of people in my life that I know I can count on no matter what for support, love, laughter, and I’m so thankful you are one of them. My life is truly blessed to have you and your amazing family in it.

Ever since you first posted about your wonderful friend, I have followed her blog (Ben and my little girl are only a couple months apart in age). She’s such an amazing, caring, involved mom. I’m always reminded to treasure my little one more because of how she reflects that love for her Ben. Beautiful friendship and beautiful photos!

Every time you post pictures of these two, it warms my heart! Their obvious love and adoration for each other just shine through!! 🙂

I love that you said she grew a baby in her heart. My husband and I are in the adoption process right now and that is exactly how I feel about my future baby…he/she is growing in my heart as I type!

I have tear-filled eyes after reading this post.
Thank you for sharing your insights on our beautiful friend.
I wish I could put into words, as eloquently as you just did, the support and kindness she has shown me in the eight (!) years since we met.
My family and I moved to PA before Ben arrived, and while our sons have never met, I show off pictures of Ben as if he is my own flesh and blood.

Okay, you had me a little nervous as I was reading your beautiful words. I was a little nervous something not-so-good had happened but PHEW!!! you tricked me! What a wonderful post (after getting through it) dedicated to a beautiful person.

Phew…again. 😛

I can’t wait for the return of Baby Ben to the business blog! That first session you did with him is one of my very favorites!!
