brothers and sisters

Does anyone watch that show? I think I’m getting addicted. Wait. I was getting addicted before Ephraim arrived and instituted mandatory 7:30 bedtime. Oh well. That’s what season DVDs are for right?

I look at my two kids (that word again…whoa.) and try to wrap my brain around their sibling-hood. As soon as Ephraim was born I totally felt like he was ours. I had no issues feeling like his mommy or comprehending Brent as his daddy. Where I struggled though was with realizing that Sarah now had a brother. And she is a sister. The idea that Brent and I have brought two beings into this world that are related and connected and bonded for life is just so much bigger than me. I love looking at them and knowing that they’ll have each other for always. That they’ll be playmates and bickerers and confidantes and buddies. That they might one day stand at the other’s wedding. That they could swap phone calls at ungodly hours in the midst of crisis (or just typical college drama). That when Brent and I are gone they’ll have each other. That is so much bigger than me. Dang.

(after nap cuddles. I think I’ve been replaced.)

Moving on.

Ephraim and I are alone! We dropped Sarah off at JoJo and Papa’s house last night and they’re headed down to the beach today to help Lily celebrate her first birthday. I’m so sad that we won’t be there but so excited that Sarah is representing! She gets back on Tuesday (breathe mommy, breathe) and I’m kind of already counting down the hours. In the meantime though baby E and I are going to head to the mall to spend some GAP $$$ on drawstring pants (oh heaven!) and just generally enjoy soaking each other up. I’m looking forward to giving the little guy some undivided attention. We’re also going to spend the weekend finishing up our Christmas shopping, decorating the big tree and hanging out with my stepbrother Craig and his girlfriend, Megan (super-excited about that!).

One last thing before I head to the bathroom and attempt to present myself to the world and someone who is getting a decent amount of sleep. You guys are so amazing to me. If you knew how I looked forward to your comments you’d all blush and look away. I started this blog when Sarah was three months old and I feel like my level of connection to the outside world has increased exponentially from then until now. Thanks for that you guys.

They look so sweet together. I can’t wait to see my daughter cuddled up with a sibling one day. And another thing, I’m sure I can speak for everyone when I say that we look forward to your posts just as much as you look forward to the comments.

Those pics are just soooo sweet!

I agree that we probably look as forward to your new stuff as you do our comments!! I fondly remember getting to see you (not often enough) when you would come visit the family, and us exchanging letters occasionally when you were still in high school. I am so glad for the miracle of blogs where I can keep up with you and ‘watch’ your kids grow up!!

You’ve grown into an amazing and special woman and I’m very proud to know you.

meganNovember 30, 2007 - 11:58 am

Oh, and while you’re shopping, you should stop to pick up this for baby Ephraim. He was the first person I thought of when I saw it because I remembered you mentioning Bren’s about his new job! :o)

erinNovember 30, 2007 - 1:09 pm

Megan, oh my gosh! I can’t believe they have those shirts there! We just got back from our trip and I literally wizzed through the baby section so I didn’t even see them. I guess we’ll be making another trip!

jsbebeNovember 30, 2007 - 1:33 pm

Seeing my kids grow up together and watching them bond is one of the greatest things in my life. Brady and Mary Rose are almost exactly 2 years apart and… when they were babies it was great, but it gets even better and better as they get older! And now with Jane we were talking about how the new baby won’t get to eat tangerines ( her new fav. thing!) like she can Jane said,” OH NO! I will save ’em for herr… for yatter.” She isn’t even a big sister yet, but she just knows how to be one because of her older siblings!
AND then when they are bigger you hear them conspiring against you! Its great! I love that my kids are such a team!!!

jsbebeNovember 30, 2007 - 1:36 pm

Jsbebe is me… Sharon. That was odd???

Susie PSUNovember 30, 2007 - 1:57 pm

As always, you’ve captured such a darling moment! Snuggling is the best.

You make me tired just reading your blog. I mean seriously, do you sell this energy in a bottle???? : )

I guess I should get off of here and do something constructive because you my friend have inspired me to do something.

The thanks goes to you!

I wish my little andrew would hold his new brother like this…too cute. All he does is bop him on the head…too young still I guess. Love the BnW conversion.

ssclark01December 1, 2007 - 1:19 pm

He’s a nice baby.

WendyDecember 1, 2007 - 7:36 pm

Erin- I am always in awe of how you write and take pictures. Keep it up! Sweet sweet babies you have.
I love brothers and sisters!! I have watched it from the first episode, and like a dork… I own the first season.

merDecember 1, 2007 - 8:57 pm

Erin, your family is beautiful! I love the picture of Sarah kissing Ephraim. You’re in for so many more sweet moments like that.

carolDecember 2, 2007 - 7:51 pm

Erin, Seeing those pictures remind me of when Sara first met her brother and sister – they were in the NICU and she was able to see them – she walked up to her brothers isolette (she was 3 1/2) and started to sing to him – what a wonderful feeling that is when a sibling shows that much love. It sounds like Sarah will show him all that love too.

AngieDecember 3, 2007 - 9:08 am

Just wait until Sarah makes Ephraim laugh. Oh my! Your heart will melt. It’s the most wonderful feeling watching your kids interact and love each other. And then one day, they’ll start causing TROUBLE with each other… ahhh, good times. Those times make for some rich blog posts! 🙂

And I check here way too frequently for new posts. If only I commented as often! It does make you feel loved, doesn’t it?!

lizDecember 3, 2007 - 10:14 am

I agree with Caroline – he’s a a nice baby. With an even nicer Mama!
Yeah, siblings ARE awesome, aren’t they? I’m calling my sister…
Also, YOU totally connect ME to the world! Thank YOU!!!
