(disclaimer: iphone pics ahead!)
1. This post will include a giveaway at the end. So don’t skim. 😉
2. Tomorrow I have something SO EXCITING to share with you guys. It will include a giveaway too (or several). It’s not photography related but it’s something I love so, so, so much and I can’t wait to tell you all about it.
3. This morning Brent sent an email to all of our friends with a You Tube video link. Brent is not a joke email sender so I knew this had to be good. Hilarious! Please click if you have a dad, are a dad, know a dad or just like to make fun of dads. Dad Life. (p.s. all you Dads out there living the “Dad Life”…you are amazing.)
3. A couple of months ago my Dad decided to gift me with a road trip for my 30th birthday. “Anywhere you want to go,” he said. My answer? Fairhope, Alabama. I’ve never really spent time in Southern Alabama and in light of what’s happening in the gulf with the oil spill I wanted to show my support with my (dad’s) dollars. So we’re here. At the Grand Hotel. I knew it would be fab, and it is. What I didn’t know was that my sister (!!!!!!) would be joining us! I cried like the baby sister that I am when I saw her sitting on the dock of my in-law’s house, beer in hand, smug look on her face. AAAAHHHH!!! So fun. I love my dad so much for making this happen.
4. We spent the entire day shopping. No touring or sightseeing for us (poor Dad). We hit every antique shop, resale shop, boutique, coffee shop, and bookstore in the town of Fairhope. It’s all in the name of supporting the local economy, I promise!
5. So. Regarding that outfit. Halfway through our day my sister and I stood in a dressing room together oohing and aahing over each other’s finds. And then she had to come out with, “can I tell you something about your outfit?” (Note to self: future answer to that question should always be NO!). She went on to tell me that the shirt I was wearing with that skirt was all wrong and that she rifled through my suitcase this morning when I wasn’t looking to see if I had something different. I didn’t. So she let me go out looking (apparently) like a goof and then sprung the news of my goofiness on me midway through our shopping excursion. I tried to defend myself by reminding her that I didn’t know she was coming on the trip. Her response: “So you just didn’t try?” Ouch.
6. We’ve laughed about that little exchange all day. It rivals the time she sent me a shirt she once bought but changed her mind about deciding it was “too prim” for her. I of course am the natural choice for prim hand me downs! So if you have any extra mumus or embroidered denim jumpers lying around, send them my way.
7. The people of Fairhope have seriously been SO kind and welcoming. It seems like every store and restaurant we’ve stopped in has been staffed by people genuinely interested in who we are, where we come from and what they can help us with. Case in point, chats at an antique and bookstore this morning:
8. In said bookstore I found a pretty hilarious sign on the restroom door. And then I took a picture for a little bit of proof!
9. I bought a magic necklace today. And tweeted about it. In case you’re wondering, a magic necklace is a piece of jewelry that makes everything you put on look amazing. I finally had to take Meghan’s advice and take it off when I was trying on clothes because I couldn’t decide if I loved the shirt I was trying or just the necklace! The picture doesn’t do it justice. It’s an old piece (antique store find) made of increasingly sized pieces of slimly cut wood. Love.
10. We had Gumbo for lunch today: (well, we had Facebook too.)
And the tasty Gumbo made me proud of the t-shirts we picked up in downtown Fairhope in support of the Gulf Coast. They’re being sold to raise money for the grassroots Save Our Shore program which seeks to create oil absorbent hair booms to be used to protect the delicate shorelines. It helps that the art on the back is pretty. So we bought four.
(Hey Brent, I got you a T-shirt!) And I got one for one of you too.
Just leave a comment today and the next time I blog I’ll pick a winner using random.org and have it sent your way (Hanes Adult Large).
