ten on tuesday

1. If you follow me on Twitter you may have noticed my little shout out to Ann Taylor Loft on Saturday. ATL and I (along with my personal shopper, Sarah) got along famously this weekend and somehow I ended up with (gulp) five savings cards. I think they work like Gymbucks – $25 gift cards for every $50 you spend between June 1 and June 13. Suffice it to say that I will NOT be spending (another) $250 at ATL next month so I’m happy to send them to anyone who thinks they might. Unfortunately I can’t divide them up since they have to be presented with the original reciept. So they’ll go to the first person that comments that they want them (be sure to input your email addy). You can also use them online if you don’t have an ATL near you.

2. I’m in the very early stages of planning a trip to the SoCal area in January. I’ll take up to eight sessions while I’m there. If you’re interested in finding out how you can nab one of those spots, leave a comment (don’t forget your email addy) with your general location or email me at erin at erincobb dot com.

3. Saturday night we were honored to attend the Ally’s Army Battles Cancer event in Dayton. Janel and her amazing family (friends included) put on an unbelievable event to mark the completion of Ally’s first year of treatment. Janel’s dad is in the running to become the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Man of the Year in order to bring greater cancer awareness and resources to the Miami Valley. All of the proceeds of Saturday’s event went to directly to the LLS…to the tune of $150,000.00!!!!! I have lots of pictures from the wonderful evening that I can’t wait to share. In the meantime you can read what Janel had to say about the evening here and you can read a bit more about my journey with the Barnett family here. And, as always, please keep Ally in your thoughts and prayers and lend your support to her family via their blog.

4. GoDaddy had some server issues today which put my blog(s) out of the loop for most of the day. I tried to compose this post at noon today. Now it’s 8:30.

5. I had the extreme privilege of meeting and photographing Jennifer McGuire’s fabulous family this evening. I have long admired Jennifer’s work with Creating Keepsakes and Hero Arts and was thrilled to finally meet her in person. Will share her sneak peek on the business blog soon! Hi Jennifer!

6. Overheard today from Sarah to Ephraim: “Ephraim, go snuggle Mommy because tomorrow is her birthday and she doesn’t have any love.” HA!

7. Tomorrow my friend Nicki and I head to the Pottery Barn Outlet…CAN”T WAIT doesn’t begin to describe my feelings about it!

8. If you can believe it, I’ve never been to a Trader Joe’s before (Brent says I have, I deny it). I know there are some hardcore TJ’ers out there. What are the must-have items I need to take home with me?

9. I have taken less than 10 real (non iphone) pictures of my own family on this trip. What has gotten into me?

10. Lee DeWyze all the way baby. (wait, I’m now hearing Crystal’s version of Up To the Mountain…I may be changing my mind…)

nickiMay 25, 2010 - 5:52 pm

Maybe we should hit Trader Joe’s Thursday! 🙂
I LOVE Lee too!!!
Will discuss tomorrow! 🙂

HeidiMay 25, 2010 - 5:52 pm

Can I have those ann taylor loft cards if you still have them? I love ATL!

Lisa PratherMay 25, 2010 - 5:52 pm

I would love the Ann Taylor gift cards! I need summer clothes bad!!!!

BethMay 25, 2010 - 5:58 pm

We love TJs pumpkin pancake mix, apple balls, guacamole, spaghetti sauce, and dried mango…just to name a few!!!

StaceyMay 25, 2010 - 5:58 pm

SoCal interest here!!! We’re in Orange County – an hour south of LA. Oh, that would be so great to have you photograph my kids!!

Never been to a Trader Joe’s?? That is so sad and even worse since you don’t have one near by. We LOVE their enchilada sauce, their pirate booty for the kids is yummy and everything else is perishable and won’t make the long drive home I’m sure. Yummy!!

hannaMay 25, 2010 - 6:05 pm

I think I’m too late, but I’ll use those ATL cards if no one else does. They have some great clothes.

Gina HarpurMay 25, 2010 - 6:15 pm

So California interest!! I live in the beautiful Palos Verdes. So many great places for photo shoots!!! Here is a website (not mine) with some pictures of our beautiful area: http://www.tedsimages.com/text/pvpenin.htm

Janelle AndersonMay 25, 2010 - 6:21 pm

Dried mango at TJ’s is MUST! The dried apples, pineapple and blueberries are pretty rockin’ too.

Have a wonderful PB birthday outing. Dangerous Erin! 🙂

Sarah cracks me up.

Mmmmm…Las Piramides!

AmyMay 25, 2010 - 6:25 pm

Happy Birthday Eve! You’ve been so busy!

TJ’s is worth the trip to Dayton, alone. They have awesome sunflowernut butter. And the Jasmine Green Tea is great. And lots of good chocolate treats, too. Mmmmm, just one more reason to have Dayton on the top of our PCS list!

HeatherMay 25, 2010 - 6:43 pm

Get teh Charels Shaw wine (2 buck chuck!!) Get us a few bottles too we will pay you!! They are only $2 a bottle and it is good wine!!!

Jenny MeyersonMay 25, 2010 - 6:51 pm

We live in Phoenix, but would gladly make a trip to So Cal for some family pictures. Vacation and pictures- what can’t I like about that? Email- beccajen@aol.com

Trader Joe’s- my kids love their fresh pizza dough and we make pizza or calzones. Yummy!

quietangelsbMay 25, 2010 - 6:55 pm

Love Trader Joe’s. Their two buck chuck is great for cooking. They always have some nicely priced plants and you can’t beat their basil plants at $2.99! You have mail regarding your So Cal Sessions- can’t wait!

j.j.May 25, 2010 - 7:03 pm

happy early birthday my friend! i would love to be able to get back to that outlet!

TJ’s musts for us (i would DIE without it b/c of the allergies in our house!) = snappea crisps, tahini-free hummus, 2-pound bars of dark chocolate (the red package), soy ice cream (especially cherry chocolate chip), the mint body wash (get lots!), coffee, peppermint tea, roasted red pepper spread (little jar). i could go on:)

MeganMay 25, 2010 - 7:47 pm

Happy Birthday (early!). I have to agree with JJ on the the peppermint tea and the 2 pound chocolate. I miss Trader Joes

BethMay 25, 2010 - 8:08 pm

Erin & ladies- Sadly 2 buck chuck isn’t 2 buck chuck in OH. We live just across state lines in KY and our closest TJ is in OH and it’s more like $4 due to state liquor tax…or that’s what we’ve been told. Still a great deal on good wine.

DanaMay 25, 2010 - 8:26 pm

Love TJs!! Crushers for the kids are awesome, frozen mac n cheese is amazing. Chariot wine is perfect and veggie sticks are a must in the car for kiddos! oh and their hummus is also fantastic! have fun!

robinMay 25, 2010 - 8:33 pm

YOU’RE FINALLY COMING TO SO CAL???!!! i’m so in. and in january?! you can take my gal’s 4-year-old pics!!!! super duper, crazy excited!

my TOP 5 non-perishable faves from trader joes:

1. tempting trail mix – a nice melange of dried cherries, chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, cashews, peanuts & almonds. i’d pick up several bags if i were you & you’ll find them near the nuts & dried fruit.

2. harvest grains blend – a mix of israeli couscous, orzo, baby garbanzo beans & red quinoa. soooooooooooo good as a side dish. again, pick up several bags of this stuff. you’ll find it near the rice & stuff.

3. 12 grain mini snack crackers – sooooooooo good! best crackers ever. i like to eat them with string cheese.

4. pumpkin pancake & waffle mix – it can be fall in your house all year long!

5. vegetable medley chips – i think that’s what they’re called. like terra chips but trader joes brand. yum.

i’ll get back to you if i think of some more. 😉

robinMay 25, 2010 - 8:43 pm

oh, i have three more! peppermint joe-joes. i think that’s what they’re called? they’re like oreo cookies but with a creamy, peppermint filling.

oh, the plain vanilla joe-joes (vanilla sandwich cookies) are awesome too!

dunkable chocolate chip cookies (they’re in a plastic tub). they’re long chocolate chip cookies perfect for dipping in your coffee or a glass of milk. fyi, you can also get them dipped in chocolate.

Natascha GambleMay 25, 2010 - 9:42 pm

TJ’s recommendations: garlic chipoltle salsa, hibiscus juice, bag of beluga beans(they’re cooked, just reheat!)…really good with quinoa, frz. brown rice (womy daily addiction is their corn tortilla chips with cilantro pecan dip (although it’s perishable). The red vino, Carmenere Panilonco is an affordable, drink soon choice.

TJ’s recommendations: garlic chipoltle salsa, hibiscus juice, bag of beluga beans(they’re cooked, just reheat!)…really good with quinoa, frz. brown rice (not sure if can be refrozen)my daily addiction is their corn tortilla chips with cilantro pecan dip (although it’s perishable). The red vino, Carmenere Panilonco is an affordable, drink soon choice. The TJ’s near us does a “find Freddy the Frog” thing for kids-but I don’t know if that’s a nationwide thing.

LorenaMay 25, 2010 - 10:12 pm

May you have a wonderful birthday!

Trader Joe’s is terrific. Aside from the great recommendations you’ve already received, don’t forget the Trader Joe’s coffee (great coffee at a great price) and the Yogi tea (I love the ginger tea, and it resolves tummy aches, too!). Oh! And don’t forget the ginger snap cookies, which everybody loves.

VeronicaMay 25, 2010 - 10:31 pm

Yes come to So. CA!! I have never commented before, just love your photography.

I would love to have my 3 boys photographed!!!

Hope it all works out.

MonicaMay 26, 2010 - 2:15 am

Lisa CeaserMay 26, 2010 - 4:16 am

Happy Birthday! Sadly there are no Trader Joe’s anywhere near where I live and work. But I hear a lot of bloggers and facebooker’s rave about it. Enjoy your trip.

Happy Birthday, my girl! Little does Sarah know — you are surrounded by love and you cause it to multiply! (But hey, any excuse for a snuggle from Big E…) I love you!

cathyMay 26, 2010 - 9:21 am

I live in Southern California about 15 minutes from Redondo Beach. I would love to have a photo session with you. It would definitely be a challenge because in January my boys will be almost 2, 3 & 4. But I would enjoy the opportunity to meet you & see how you work. And we do all our shopping at TJs. Too many things to list but you will love it.

cathyMay 26, 2010 - 9:22 am

And I hit post before I had the chance to write Happy Birthday!

DebbieMay 26, 2010 - 9:31 am

Happy Birthday Erin! I could’ve included that in the email I just sent you, but clearly I got a little caught up in #2 when you said you were coming to SoCal… I just read the rest. 🙂 Hope you have a great day!!!

marianMay 26, 2010 - 10:08 am

Lily & NateMay 26, 2010 - 10:17 am

HUGS and KISSES to our Chachiji on her birthday!!!

Lorena MoraMay 26, 2010 - 11:06 am

Oh yay Southern Cali, count me in! We are in Long Beach, CA. I’ve never shopped at Ann Taylor but I checked their site cute clothes so I will def shop there next time I buy clothes for now gotta buy the kids clothes they outgrow everything so fast and their feet, sheesh they need new shoes before they even get dirty.

adminMay 26, 2010 - 11:36 am

THank you guys for all the TJ recs! Hitting it tomorrow…can’t wait! And thank you for all the B-day love! Will send info out about Cali sessions later this week. Exciting stuff!

Lisa SmileyMay 26, 2010 - 2:27 pm

Yes, Lee. Love him. All the way. Too bad he was so nervous last night.

Lucky you to meet Jennifer! I have also been an admirer of hers and got to meet her at a CKU a few years ago. So fun and spunky. Down to earth. Bet you guys got along fabulously!

If you head up to Northern California, please let us know. Love to meet you and get a session 🙂

TJ rocks rocks rocks. Lots of recs, but lately they just got in French Macarons in the freezer section. I make these. They are time consuming and really really good. The box is cheap for macs and the vanilla ones are great. The choc (which are unfortunately in the same box) are ok. But it’s worth it for the vanilla.

I have been sooooo wanting you to post the editing tips. Sooo badly. I love your edits. Karen has talked about it, you have…when will it come? Pleassseee 🙂

Love ATL, but now I’m spending money trying to be a better photographer…so want a new cam 🙂

Thanks for all your inspiration!

Stacy KiernanMay 26, 2010 - 3:13 pm

Definitely the pumpkin pancake/waffle mix at TJ’s! We also like the lentils (the black ones that are vacuum packed not the refrigerated ones). I mix them with rice at dinner and my 2 and 4 year olds eat them up despite the fact they are so nutritious. If you are looking for an easy dinner to cook, they have some carne asada steak that is already marinated and ready to grill that is SO good (and I’m pretty picky about Mexican food after being transplated to CA from Texas). They have some fresh flour tortillas you can pick up to go with it too.

HillaryMay 26, 2010 - 6:31 pm

Get Trader Joe’s Meatless Meatballs. They are SO good!

MelanieMay 26, 2010 - 7:29 pm

I am all over Lee winning. He has had to work the hardest. I love his humility. I want a card:)

SarahMay 26, 2010 - 7:49 pm

Happy birthday!!!!

A few more things from Trader Joes that are WONDERFUL:

The Mango Lemonade and the Strawberry Lemonade! My twins LOVE it (I mix half water, half lemonade and they are happy campers!) I put mine over crushed ice – YUMMY!

The 100 calorie chocolate bars – WOWZERS! They are very hard to find as they sell out all the time, but they have a milk chocolate (my fav) and a dark chocolate (my Mom’s fav) and for 100 calories, you’d never know it! They come in a box of 5 and are usually by the register.

Have a fun trip there and a wonderful day tomorrow!

AnonymousMay 26, 2010 - 8:32 pm

The must haves for TJ’s

Chocolate ice cream bon bons (do not leave without these!)
corn chile salsa
raspberry and bree wrapped in philo in the frozen section

JenniferMay 27, 2010 - 10:20 am

My must have at TJ’s is the mini-merengues. They are like little bites of heaven that melt in your mouth…

Kim :)May 27, 2010 - 12:51 pm

ellen pattonMay 28, 2010 - 9:37 am

CarlieMay 28, 2010 - 12:20 pm

I love your blogs Erin! Hey, just wanted to let you know you should ditch GoDaddy and sign up with Name.com. My husband works there and it is a small awesome Colorado company! 🙂

Happy bday by the way!

MaxMarch 3, 2015 - 3:21 am

Which card is most effective and easy to get if I have quite low credit score? Any recommendation
