time marches on (again).

I’m not sure how it happened but somehow we arrived at the last day of school. Technically the last day for Bamaranians (Samantha’s term, not mine) is next Friday but since my children Maylight (akin to moonlight) as Ohioans we’re heading there early Sunday morning,  missing the last week of school.

Which means it’s come to this: posting the first and last day photographs.

You may remember that back in August when school first began, B-Ro was only concerned with what was in his lunch box and had no interest in documenting his first morning of preschool. Thankfully times have changed…

Whenever my kiddos indulge me with a picture of them together I inevitably ask them to “snuggle up”. I think the commparison between last fall and this spring is marked and should be noted.

My remaining thoughts on these two pivotal days in our year…

– What happened to bangs? Somewhere along the way that Pi’bears decided she was finished with them. I wasn’t really sad until I looked at these pictures. Now it just plain stinks. My baby has had bangs since (literally!) the day she was born.

– My B-ro is beginning to enter the skinny leg/skinny face stage. Boo.

– That pose Sarah is striking? So her right now. She didn’t stray from that posture or that face for any of the shots I grabbed.

– I don’t know where she learned to cross her legs. It’s not like her mama ever wears a skirt or attends social events that demand leg-crossing.

– Although their lunchboxes aren’t pictured in today’s shot I feel the need to document what was inside. Don’t ask me why, I just do. Pita chips with hummus, orange slices and a cheesestick. All courtesy of Daddy, who announced today that he “loves being the lunch chef!” Methinks that’s quite a convenient proclamation on the last day of school.
(And just for fun, check out that Pi’bears on the first and last day of last year.)

That Sarah with her crossed legs. Such a lady!

Oh I love the differences, I need to start doing before and afters of my kids. I did notice in a few past pictures that Sarah no longer had bangs, but I think she looks so cute without them although she does look older and us mom try to keep them looking little. I used to tell my Mady to please stay little forever and now that she is 7 it seems so long ago when she was little and every now and then she remembers and says, “I’m sorry mommy that I couldn’t stay little forever but you know I just have to grow.” B-Ro is looking like a little boy. All the babyness is slowly going away. Time goes so fast, it’s a good thing you record it all in photos.

Sarah just cracks me up. I can’t even imagine the attitude the girls are going to have in IoP!

And, technically, it’s spelled ‘Bammeranians. Please get it right next time.

I love those before and after shots. Sarah’s leg-crossing is funny and cute…..she’s a little lady!

I love this idea. And what a difference. Sorry to say but they look so much more grown up. Adorable pictures. I love Sarah’s expressions. And you can even tell how much taller Ephraim has got by where his legs hit on the stairs. 🙂

Adorable! the legs crossed, hilarious!

That pose of her crossing her legs is so stinkin’ cute!!! : ) Great idea, to document both the first AND the last! Never thought of the last!!!! Our kids go to school through mid June, so I’ll still get a chance to do that this year : )

I can’t believe the changes in them since they started school! B-Ro went from a toddler to a little boy!! (I’m not so sure I like that…)

I LOVE time-freezing, flashback, comparison, picture taking traditions. I HATE how fast our kids are growing. I LOVE you! I HATE that you’re far away =sniff=

Hi Erin…I found your blog thru Karen Russell….love your photography and stories. I have a question for you…did you use a different camera for the first and last day shots?

Great idea for pre and post school shots! I’m actually shocked that nobody has asked where you picked up that awesome shirt for Ephraim! Please share!!!

JaimieMay 16, 2010 - 9:13 am

Seriously some of the cutest kids in the world! I love Sarah’s crossed legs, what a lady!

Heather, the shirts were ordered through my friend Margaret Day but I don’t think she sells them anymore. The company’s website is: http://clarabelleandthehen.com/. Sarah has one too and I LOVE them.
