her essence.

I’ve struggled with taking her picture lately. I know it’s been a combination of things. One being first trimester blahs. But it’s also been that feeling that I can’t capture her in a portrait like I could when she was 6 months, 9 months, 12 months. You know, back when she was STILL and COMPLIANT.

But this weekend I feel like my camera found HER. Just as she is right now. Maybe not portrait quality, but so her.

kissy…

cuddly…(disclaimer…this is technically not my photo and I’m sure to be called on it if the point goes unmentioned)

inquisitive…

precious…

naughty…

and nice…

so her.

Beautiful as ever… absolutely… beautiful. Isn’t it the coolest thing when you know you have caught what you see and feel everyday? While I absolutely embrace each new day, each new development… there are times when I look at my Sarah and I literally melt.. could be brought to tears in an instant because of how much I love her in that very moment; to actually capture it.. is like stopping time, even though it is an illusion. While the pictures are stunning.. I think I can sit over here and feel the love that existed the moment they were taken. Thank you for sharing 🙂

you don’t think “nice” is portrait quality?

MarciMay 29, 2007 - 5:56 pm

The black and white ones are beautiful and that last one is just stunning!

I’m going through the same thing with my 19 month old. Trying to get a picture of her when she is still is near impossible.

I agree with the other two – the “nice” one is fantastic. How many more days??
I’ll call in on the 31st.

I adore those black and white ones, really. They are beautiful!

“Naughty” got a chuckle out of me. I can hear you saying “no no, Sarah, we don’t put rocks in our mouth”!

DeniseMay 29, 2007 - 6:39 pm

GREAT pictures! When do you find out if you’re having a boy or girl?

AnonymousMay 29, 2007 - 6:50 pm

Erin, I hope your first trimester blahs go away soon…
Your photos are just so sweet! They always are. These are not only totally portrait quality, but priceless!

MeganMay 29, 2007 - 7:49 pm

I love the “naughty” one. Her expression in that one is great. You look fabulous. Good luck on your travels.

erinMay 29, 2007 - 8:31 pm

You guys are too sweet. I do actually think that “nice” would qualify…thanks for pointing that out!

Liz CMay 30, 2007 - 5:32 am

I love “nice” and “precious”. Even when you thinkyou aren’t taking great pictures…you are. Hope you are feeling better soon.

Shana-LynnMay 30, 2007 - 5:36 am

Great pictures as always Erin.

ShannonMay 30, 2007 - 6:18 am

Very sweet…and I know exactly what you mean. When my camera comes out Katie heads for the hills or won’t even give me a glance. So I have a lot of those “staring off into the distance” shots. Uggh…toddlers are exhausting! 🙂

JessicaMay 30, 2007 - 6:56 am

Erin,
I can’t wait to see all your adorable maternity clothes!

Sarah is so precious!

JenMay 30, 2007 - 8:50 am

I love, love, love “precious”. All the photos are gorgeous as usual, but that one is my favourite!

JodiMay 30, 2007 - 11:52 am

What a great set of pics of your whole fam!

I think naughty and nice would make a great framed pair with those captions. isn’t swinging between those two extremes what being a toddler is all about?

JenniferMay 30, 2007 - 3:23 pm

My fav is the one kissing daddy – soooo cute!!

Hope you had a happy birthday!!!

ShelleyMay 30, 2007 - 8:36 pm

“nice” would definitly make a portrait – very sweet!

BobbiMay 31, 2007 - 9:08 am

These are breathtaking! Just gorgeous! I really love the “nice” shot and the “precious”? one. (sorry can’t remember if that was the word you used). I love your conversion on these
