say say, oh dolly

Does anyone know that song? I’ve just rediscovered it on double-disc CD set of songs I bought for Sarah. My thinking was that this might keep her entertained for a bit on our drive across country in June. I didn’t realize that once I popped one of those bad boys in the car player they could never come out. In fact, she can barely make it through the 2 second lull between songs – “Mo! MO! MO!” come the desperate pleas from the backseat.
Anyway. That wasn’t the point of this post. But seeing as how those CD’s have become the soundtrack for my life, I can’t look at these photos without absent-mindedly humming “say say oh dolly, come out and play with me…”
We’ve been watching baby Hayden three mornings a week and Sarah thinks she’s in baby heaven on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday mornings. He’s her own personal doll. She wants to feed him, change his diaper, give him his pacifier, hug him, show him all of his toys. She’s obsessed. I guess she needed a stand-in during his nap this morning because she found this little dolly and just went to town.
For those that asked, we do read prayers with Sarah from a book. We have two but I could only find a link for one of them…but it’s the one she was “reading” in the post the other day. And I really, really think that the photo on the front of ours is different but it’s in there with her and she’s asleep so I can’t confirm. Here you go!

The feeling is mutual! Hayden loves being doted on by his best friend 🙂

It’s nice to know that Hayden is in such loving hands as yours and Sarah’s in the mornings! It is not at all surprising to see Sarah is as caring as her mama.

Sarah will make a great Big Sis one of these days. Tell the Pigbear “Baby Lily” will see her in a couple of months and looks forward to be babied =)

If you want to see Sarah first receiving this doll from her “great grama” check out the archived post from April 26, 2006. She was as delighted then as she is today. Have you sung, “I dropped dolly in the dirt…” with her yet?

well at least sarah’s dolly is much cleaner than alla’s. alla’s needs a bath in a bad way but she freaked out at the suggestion.

What a cute little mommy. Maybe she is ready for her own baby sibling?

I can see a cabbage-patch baby in the making. Those days when you, Meghan and Paul took your babies to the local thrift shop for new outfits….those were some good times.
Love you…

I have been an admirer of yours for quite some time and I have to say I am as stunned by your daughter’s beauty as I am by how I see you parent her. I love the prayer book, the way you let her play, the time you spend with her! Whether you know it or not, you are mentoring me both with my photography and my mom skills 🙂 Thank you!

OH kid music once you start; it never seems to end, Nicholas still loves his. Sarah sure is going to make a great big sister some day.

Aww…we love our Dolly’s over here too. Although when she gets mad they are the first thing to be thrown across the room. It’s definitely a love/hate relationship. 🙂

She is such a cute little mommy!

AngieMay 9, 2007 - 2:36 pm

She’s just a doll herself!

Not that this was *really* the point of the post, but I always sang, “Say say, oh playmate”! I’ve never heard it on a CD. Was I singing it wrong all those years?! LOL! ~Angie

How precious…I love how she is holding the dolly on her hip like a real mommy…too cute.

I thought I recognized those illustrations. Evie loved that book so much it got destroyed. Thanks for the link, we’ll have to order another one!

Golly, she sure is precious. I found your blog via my daughter’s blog and I pop in once in a while to check on Pigbear. Great photos.
