While I was in Boston last week I had the fun opportunity to meet up with a few blog readers. I recognized all their names from comments or emails over the years and I finally got to add real live faces to those names! Steve was entirely weirded out and kept asking, “wait…are you really going to meet people from the internet?”. Then he would cast a stern glance at Samantha that clearly said, you’re not going to be involved with any of these shennanigans, are you???
Sorry Stevie. But we met the internets. And we liked them. The jury’s still out on whether or not they liked us.

As a funny aside, Steve actually called Samantha’s cell phone three times during our coffee date but she never heard it. He finally called my phone in a bit of a panic so when I answered I just kept saying our safe word over and over in an uncontrollable giggle: coffee! coffee! coffee!
(You must always have a safe word when meeting people on the internet. If for no other reason than to terrorize your husband and friend’s husbands.)
Poor Stevie, he just wanted to protect us.
But back to the cool friends we made. Ellen, Diana and Keri have read ThePigbear for a while (years?) so it was like walking into a room filled with old friends when we met. Well, friends whom you personally know nothing about, that is. But it was fun getting to know all about them! For my part I think the air of old-friendness was a bit strong, as I ended up telling at least one inappropriate story (oops!) that had everyone rolling at my expense. And for Samantha’s part I have to give her props for keeping the eye rolling to a minimum when the girls spoke kind words about me. She is my best friend afterall and knows my true colors, even when the internet might think otherwise about me.![]()
So there you have it, an evening of fun with a few blog readers. I’d love to do it again sometime. Maybe in a city near you? Of course, I’ll need to choose a new safe word since, you know, coffee would be a giveaway now.
*** Hey Boston girls, if you’re wondering when in the world we all had our picture taken together, we didn’t. It’s a composite. I just couldn’t stand to not have one with all of us in it so I asked my friend Photoshop to hook us up. And she did!
