a napping house…where everyone is(n’t) sleeping.

Pi’bears is torn between two worlds.

The one where little children nap for hours and wake up pleasant and rested and ready to face the rest of the day, and the one where they don’t.

She’s trying to shed her nap and at four years old I realize it’s probably time. Even if I’m hesitant (read: internally screaming “please Lord nooooooooo!!!” at the top of my lungs) to let it go.

Most days we agree on a quiet time with her in her room doing puzzles or reading books or adhering stickers to any and every flat surface (hey, whatever it takes people). Once in a blue moon she’ll announce that she’s tired and she’d rather sleep than have quiet time. But more often she’ll head to her room with the intention of  having quiet time and an hour later she’ll be fast asleep.

Which means that if that happens on ballet day she’s stuck with a 30 minute nap and a bad case of the post-nap grumpies.

Sorry Pi’bears. You’re just too cute not to photograph.

Even grumpy.

She is indeed a cutie even when grumpy and tired!

I was just thinking about that book because two of mine who normally don’t nap were asleep at the same time yesterday afternoon.

That first picture says it ALL! 🙂

Oh, I’m so with you on the dreading the end of naptime! Ava sleeps great at daycare, but weekend naps are a struggle. I *need* those two hours, and so does she. She’s never been a girl to need much sleep, though, so I’d better start preparing myself for the demise of naptime sooner rather than later!

Um, can I just mention how incredibly tall she looks in this picture?! How is it possible she keeps getting cuter?!

I love all the natrual light in your house! and I really hope she doesnt throw her nap yet.. I am also dreading that time…..

Having her mommy stick a camera in her face probably didn’t do much to change her mood either! 🙂 My kids were opposites – Tyler was a champion napper (3 hours!) until we had to make him quit around 4 or 5 because he wasn’t tired at night when WE were! After Nick was about a year old he only napped on his terms – which sometimes wasn’t until 5:00! Of course, we could only let him go for a little bit or he wouldn’t sleep that night and he’d cry for 1/2 hour!!

Dear Pigbear,

If I ever have a daughter, I want her to look like you. I want her to have kissable cheeks, beautiful hair and lots of little girl giggles. I would also like a little sprinkle of sass in there.

Love,
Queen Bee

Dear Father,

I do not want anymore children. Please do not feel the need to surprise us. Thank you.

Love,
Amanda

How can you be upset with a cutie like that? BTW I’ve seen that look on Noah & Aaron at that age…looks much, much better on Sarah!

Ok, Amanda’s note made me laugh out loud. Been there, done that.

My kids were olympic nappers. We had the opposite problem. I was sweating getting them to be awake before starting kindergarten. I was having to wake up my adorable little zombies and get them up and walking when they would rather have taken a 2-3 hour nap. It all worked out, but I had to begin in earnest to phase out those naps a month or so before school started.

If she is phasing out her nap on her own this isn’t all bad. She is awfully cute when she is grumpy.
