ten on tuesday

1. Since my kiddos have been in school I have reserved morning school hours and nap time for work so as to free up my evenings for…ME. Which means I’m not usually blogging here until night time. Which means that even though it’s technically still Tuesday, I feel like I’m late. But better late than never right?

2. Before I forget, because I’ve wanted to ask this in a ToT post for a month now and keep forgetting – does anyone know of a great place to get good, hip, funky-ish but not too funky wallpaper? I want to put up a chair rail in our dining area and wallpaper the bottom half of it but I need to find the right thing. I’ll know it when I see it but I don’t even know where to start! Help would be appreciated!

3. Want to see my latest Etsy purchase? It’s a purse that converts to a backpack…how cool is that?! And yes, it’s waaaaay more than I would usually (OR EVER!) spend on a purse but, hey, it’s a backpack too! That has to count for something. Β πŸ˜‰ It hasn’t arrived yet but I’ll be sure to blog it if I love it as much as I think I will.

4. Do you know about Crazy8? Seems like I’ve been telling bunches of my friends about it lately so I figured I’d spread the word here too. It’s the step-down sister company to Gymboree that functions mainly online. Super cute, cheap, well-made clothes for your little hooligans. Yesterday Ephraim wore this shirt…and lived up to it’s declaration. And in the interest of giving credit where credit is due, a super kind blog reader emailed me last year about Crazy 8 and I’ve loved it ever since. Who was it? Was it you? I can’t rememberΒ  but I appreciated it!

5. I’ve been cleaning stuff out of my kids’ rooms like a madwoman this week. That’s because I amΒ a madwoman. I’ve gone mad drowning in the little bits and pieces of every single toy set that was ever made for the five and under crowd. It’s insane. We’ve changed the rules of the game around here though and have put tons of things up in the closet where they’re not longer accessible to little insatiable hands. The idea that I’m most excited about is having all of Sarah’s little sets of things (buttons, dominoes, beads, etc.) put in their own gallon-sized ziploc bags and then clipped onto a child’s size pants hanger. Hangers will be (I need to find more hangers!) hanging from the bar in her closet so she can see them but can’t reach them. Perfection! Anyone have child-sized pants hangers they want to part with? πŸ˜‰

6. I recieved a sweet phone call this afternoon from one of our former youth group members from back in our Dayton days when we advised the high school youth. She’s now a college graduate (gulp!) and is interning this year with Campus Crusade for Christ on the campus of her alma mater, Ohio University. Back in May when we were in Dayton we got to hang out with her and committed to supporting her financially during her year-long internship with the organization. She’s still shy of her financial goal and won’t be able to start her official work on the campus until she rounds up all the funds. If anyone out there has a passion for this kind of mission and would like to join us in supporting Michelle both financially and in prayer you can read more about her effort and join her team here. She’s an amazing young woman and we’re so proud of the things she’s doing with her life!

7. During our muffin tin lunch this afternoon Sarah, B-Ro and I were gathered around our little table outside when Sarah noticed a squirrel hovering about. She looked at the squirrel and said, “Go away squirrel! This isn’t squirrel food…it’s WOMAN food!”. Oh my.

8. Speaking of woman food, my purchased copy of How to Cook Everything Vegetarian arrived yesterday along with it’s impulsively purchased sister How to Cook Without a Book. And for the first time in my life I pre-ordered something that’s not released yet: The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Recipes from an Accidental Country Girl. It’s a good thing I’ll know soon enough “How to Cook Without aΒ Book” because it seems my cook book purchasing is getting out of hand.

9. Rereading this list I realize it sounds like I may have an online shopping addiction of sorts. I don’t, I promise! Or I don’t promise! =) It’s definitely one of those.

10. Got a sweet little package in the mail today from the girls at Hank and Gertie (who also happen to be blog sponsors – thank you!!). The note simply said, “It’s Hank and Gertie Pumpkin Beanie time! We think they would be a great give away on your blog!”Β  And believe you me, they are! They’re the cutest and softest little fall top knot hats you ever did see. Leave a comment and I’ll enter you in the a random.org drawing to win one for the baby in the your life. I have a small (probably for a 6 monther) and a larger one that I think would probably fit Ephraim, so let’s call it 12-24 months.

DanielleSeptember 15, 2009 - 7:21 pm

Erin,

I also pre-ordered the same book – my first time as well! I just may have to check out the cook without a book though since my cookbook cupboard is overflowing!! Hope your purse is everything you hope for!

KatherineSeptember 15, 2009 - 8:00 pm

Oh, I envy you those cookbooks. I’m all about the cooking these days. Be sure to check out A Homemade Life, Molly Wizenberg’s book. Maybe from the library. πŸ™‚

KellieSeptember 15, 2009 - 8:09 pm

One of my sister’s friends (Bruce Bradbury) actually started this wallpaper company– http://www.bradbury.com/ .
You may like some in the Modernism section, though I think they are all beautiful. A bit pricey, but if it’s something you really like, worth it.
Love that purse/backpack! I just bought a new diaper bag yesterday, and I’m resenting that a little now. πŸ™‚

AmySeptember 15, 2009 - 8:12 pm

Awesome about the pumpkin hat! I’m due any day now and it would be great for next fall… or a photo prop for other babies. πŸ˜€

MeghanSeptember 15, 2009 - 8:16 pm

I have a little chickie poo that would look sweet in a little hat like that! πŸ˜‰

KimSeptember 15, 2009 - 8:17 pm

I’ve heard stories about my uncles teasing me when I was little. They’d say, “make me some food woman”, and I’d put my hands on my hips and reply, “I ain’t no woman”. I’d wonder what Sarah’s reply would be…with her being a woman and all. πŸ™‚ My daughter will be 14 months in a couple of weeks. I cannot wait to take her to the pumpkin patch this year, and I’m thinking she NEEDS a pumpkin beanie. πŸ™‚ Count me in for the fabulous giveaway.

Stacey ReeseSeptember 15, 2009 - 8:26 pm

JoannaSeptember 15, 2009 - 10:11 pm

oh, and that crazy8 site has such cute clothes – thanks for sharing!

RachaelSeptember 15, 2009 - 11:34 pm

For starters, I love that purse-pack! Also, thank you for recommending Crazy 8. I haven’t heard of it before. Sarah’s phrases and comments are always the darnest and funniest things I’ve heard!! Thank her for my daily LOL! Looks like I’m guilty of having the “pre-order” bug too! I’ve purchased the “Feeding Baby Green” book from Dr. Greene. “Raising Baby Green” was a great read and filled with lots of info, so I’m looking forward to more focus and his expertise on pediatric nutrition.

LorenaSeptember 16, 2009 - 12:08 am

Cool looking purse/backpack. I love Etsy but I can be on it for hours, so I only get on there when you recommend something or if I’m looking for something specific. Love the giveaways.

Kara EileenSeptember 16, 2009 - 4:03 am

Crazy 8 is a wondeful store. I wandered in there once and it is now one of my favorite store for clothes for the kiddos.

Thanks for the opportunity. I have been following your blog for over a year now…love your photography! Wish I lived closer to join in on your mini-sessions πŸ™‚

vanessaSeptember 16, 2009 - 7:38 am

Sherwin Williams has some great wallpaper. I think you can access them through their website, but you have to weed through a lot of junk ones. Best bet is to go into the store sometime and look at their books. I am really wanting the PW cookbook, but I would probably gain 15 pounds as soon as I hit the purchase button!

ShawnaSeptember 16, 2009 - 7:42 am

I’ve been waiting for the PW cookbook for SOOO long! Love her! Cute hats… would love one for the little guy in my life! πŸ˜‰

jenSeptember 16, 2009 - 7:54 am

StacySeptember 16, 2009 - 8:59 am

so funny that you mentioned crazy8 because my mom just went to a mall about an hour away and was reving about that store. I’ll have to check out the website.
And the hat would be a great baby gift for some family of mine that just had a baby last Friday. But then I also have a 16 month old so I may just have to put him in the bigger one. Thanks for the opportunity!

AmySeptember 16, 2009 - 9:20 am

My good friend has a brand new baby who would love a small pumpkin hat. Count me in! Amy

AlisonSeptember 16, 2009 - 9:42 am

Love the hanger idea! And my littlest girl would be super-cute in a pumpkin hat!

Tina RSeptember 16, 2009 - 1:01 pm

Any other kids’ rooms/toy organization tips? I’m always looking for ways to improve toy storage!!! πŸ™‚ Love Crazy 8, cute stuff. I ordered some last fall, and it’s so afforadable! Love Sarah’s comment. It sounds like she would get along great with Gabby.

KathySeptember 16, 2009 - 1:04 pm

I love the idea of ziplocs on hangers! There’s just too many little pieces around here. I also have clear, vinyl shoe hangers on the back of EVERY door in my house to sort all of the stuff. It’s a huge help. They can’t reach anything on the top half, but they can see it all and have to ask for it. I also use them for cleaners and even office supplies in the closests. So far so good! If I find my stash of extra hangers I’ll let you know.

SarahSeptember 16, 2009 - 3:22 pm

Try Ferm Living for really cool/fresh/hip wallpaper. They’re a Danish co. but they have some distributors in the US. (I found them in Better Homes & Gardens ‘Do it Yourself’ Fall 2009 magazine).

TawnyaSeptember 16, 2009 - 3:53 pm

We’re feelin’ “beany” here n Indiana.

MichelleSeptember 16, 2009 - 4:28 pm

Thanks Erin for the shout-out! For those of you who don’t know me, I’m number 6 on the blog post πŸ™‚ I hope everyone goes to check out my web-site. I would love for you to join my team and see college students coming together and growing in relationship with God. I need help to finish my support raising to get on Ohio University’s campus and have a few weeks left. Please consider my need!!

Jenny ZollarsSeptember 16, 2009 - 5:34 pm

Oh I adore that hat, my Lucy is a hat baby, it’s her “thing”, probably b/c at 9 months she is still a bit of a baldy!
Hope you are having a good week!

AngSeptember 16, 2009 - 5:37 pm

Please share: muffin tin lunch? Also, it’s not for wallpaper, but have you heard about Uppercase Living? They look like stencils that on your walls/fridge/anywhere your imagination thinks of and, the best part…they’re removable! I’m addicted to them. You should check out their website-I think it’s something you’d really like!

ToniSeptember 17, 2009 - 4:25 am

Hey Erin!
Try Designers Guild. They have gorgeous and unique wallcoverings. It may be pricey, but since you plan on doing just the bottom half of your wall you may not need a lot. Good luck in your quest!

j.j.September 17, 2009 - 8:44 pm

oh i LOVE crazy 8 – i always do a big order from them in summer (for next summer) and right after christmas (for next winter’s clothes). now if only i could find a crazy 8-type store for mamas. hmph.

JenneySeptember 19, 2009 - 8:56 am

I would LOVE to win a cute little hat!! Checking out Crazy8, too. =)

KimSeptember 23, 2009 - 5:12 pm

RE: Children’s pant hangers. Walmart sells these great little clips for hangers in the laundry/hanger section. I think they are actually their brand too. They’re white, plastic, and attach easily to any size hangers (so perfect for ladies skirts too!). I absolutely love these things! And the best is they can be removed to use on larger hangers when they outgrow the kid size hangers!
