firsts.

With an almost four year old and an almost two year old in the house the firsts don’t roll around here quite as often as they used to. But last week we celebrated another one – Sarah’s first day of ballet.

Like countless little girls around the world Sarah looked forward to her first day of dance like it was Christmas morning. The very minute I came home with her leotard, tights, and shoes she commandeered them and spent the rest of the day flitting around the house as if on a cloud. And hours since. What is it about the gentle, sticky pad of ballet slippers against a hardwood floor that creates such magic?

Finally, it was time for class to begin.

Although, B-Ro didn’t look too kindly on being left behind.

No worries though, the stash of snacks in the lobby helped him with his wait. Just like a man.

While he munched on pretzel sticks (and shared with the other little brothers), I took every opportunity to squeeze my lens between the slats of the blinds…

Loved when I caught this. My girl, enthusiastically noting her attendance.

35 minutes later we were done.

Another happy first behind us.

Stella had her 1st ballet class last week too. I purposely didn’t take my camera b/c I was concerned about a possible freak out, but all was good. It is SO sweet to see them in their dance gear. Brings back such good memories. Awesome pics again, girl!

She looks SO OLD in these pictures! I can’t wait to show them to Caroline when she “wakes up.”

Yay for Dance! I am glad that she (and B Ro) enjoyed her first visit. I took dance in Dec@tur for 15 years and my cousins took in Huntsvegas for 12. Hopefully Rory will want to take too!

My Katie started ballet a few weeks ago….and I am so NOT a ballet type person but she wouldn’t stop talking about it and I’m not going to get in the way of her doing something she really wanted to try. Well even this non-ballet girl couldn’t help but feel bubbly when I saw her in her adorable leotard, tights and little slippers. Congrats to Sarah on this big first! I hope she enjoys it as much as Katie is!

Awwwwww! She does look so old and grown up. And she has me longing for a little girl 🙂

Oh my goodness…the way she is holding her hand up for attendance. She is so proud. Can’t you just see her in school now raising that hand so proudly when she knows she has the answer…very, very darling!

How fun! Love Sarah’s excitement shining through the pictures. Gabby wants to take dance…we have a dance school half a mile from our house & pass it everyday. Last year she kept telling me how she needed “lessons at ballet school.” I got the info, and classes are already starting. This reminds me I need to get a move on it!

Erin,

Wow does this bring back memories as my youngest just completed her 5th year of dancing and her 1st year on the Competition Team – what fun. Another 1st I remember is Sara’s first day with you – on Wednesday your 1st class from CKV is off to 8th grade, I can’t believe it has been that long since we were blessed with you for a teacher and friend.

Looking at your pictures brought back those first day dance class jitters for me! I have to say, there is something magical about a wall of mirrors that turns a ballet studio into an imagination wonderland. Thank you for sharing!

I L-O-V-E the shot of Pigbear raising her hand. Makes those of us who once taught smile. Sweet Sarah . . .
