In lieu of my typical ten on Tuesday I’d like you to entertain the idea of a different kind of ten.
The good kind. The green kind. The giving kind.
Back in June I mentioned in a ToT post that a little girl I photographed while in Dayton was diagnosed with Leukeumia not two weeks after our session. It has been understandably devastating for her entire family (mom, dad and two younger siblings) and came right on the heels of losing her grandmother to cancer a short two months prior. Ally’s wonderful mom, Janel, started a blog shortly after to document their journey and keep everyone abreast of the latest news regarding seven year old Ally’s health. It’s a daily must-read for me; my heart breaks thinking about what sweet second grade Ally and her family are facing. They have been surrounded by encouraging friends, acquaintances and strangers since Ally’s diagnosis and Janel is quick to mention how blessed her family is by this. Their need right now is not financial, but emotional and spiritual. They are surrounding themselves and their child with all the positive “fight” they can muster and have affectionately dubbed those fighters “Ally’s Army”. I’m proud to be a part of that Army.
Dayton’s annual “Light the Night” walk is approaching on October 1st and Ally’s Army plans to be out in full force. Oh how I wish we could attend! Light the Night walks around the country raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society which works to fund blood cancer research. Cure rates for childhood leukemia have grown by leaps and bounds in the last 20 years thanks in large part to clinical trials funded by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Ally’s family has asked her Army to, first and foremost, walk with them on October 1st and, secondly, to come up with creative ways to raise money for the Ally’s Army team.
So here we go. Fundraising, The Pigbear style.
Each week my inbox fills with questions, mainly photography related, that I try my very darndest to answer. Sometimes my answers are brief, sometimes they say “see the FAQs” and sometimes I have to say, “I’m so sorry, I simply don’t have time.” Ugh, I hate that one the most. So here’s your chance to get a guaranteed answer to your questions. From now until September 1st email me three questions and you’ll get three answers. No holds barred. No excuses. I will make the time. Ask me about exposure, post processing, actions, diapers, ask me to critique your photos, where I get my fabulous clothes (HA! as IF!), how I manage to keep my children so perfectly behaved at all times (I’m dying here!), ANYTHING. After I get back to you I’ll ask you to send $10 via paypal to my email address (erkatco at yahoo dot com). ALL funds raised will go DIRECTLY to the Ally’s Army Light the Night team.
Sound like a plan? Well, get asking!
Just a few rules:
1. Please send questions via email only. DO NOT post them in the comments section of the blog.
2. I’m operating on trust that you will send your $$ after your questions are answered the first time. Not after follow-ups. Don’t let me down. 😉
3. Three questions means three questions. Of course, you’re welcome to ask more and donate more!
