Before I get started on today’s post, the winner of the giveaway according to is comment #39 – Mollie. “I would also love to try these products. I caught my two year old with a (not so friendly) bottle of cleaner just the other day.” Email me Mollie and I’ll put you in touch with Janelle!

Almost three years ago I was encouraged by my sister-in-law to enter a photo of Sarah in the Baby Gap Casting Call. I was reluctant and said no. I was encouraged again by someone who had seen my work on twopeas. Again I said no. It was mentioned one more time by another person who had heard about it. And finally I headed to the website to check out the details. One month later I got an email that Sarah was a semifinalist. Six weeks after that we found out she had won. And two weeks later we were on a plane to Hawaii. It was without a doubt the most surreal experience of my life.

Here we are two and a half years later and I’ve finally framed and hung one of the Gap images from our trip. I’m hopelessly lazy when it comes to certain projects and for whatever reason this was one of them.

Seeing that baby Pi-bears face brought up all sorts of crazy feelings for me, particularly as I glanced from it to her baby brother who is now 5 months older than she was when that picture was taken. And that picture was taken, I’m pretty sure, yesterday! Creepy, I know.

My main feeling though was just awe at how life can change.  It is not an understatement to say that that adventure changed my life. I was a mommy on a course through motherhood and eventually back into the classroom. But I’m beginning to see that plotting my own course is a fruitless endeavour. I never, ever imagined that as a young mother of two I would be running a relatively successful business, able to stay home with my kiddos, with no future plans to use my college degree. I didn’t know that so many people would follow our Gap story and continue to encourage our family as we grew. The early success of our photography business rests solely on the shoulders of those of you who read my blog in those early days. And I continue to get clients who either are or were referred by readers here. That just leaves me feeling incredibly grateful.

To that Pi’bears.

To the Gap.

And to you.

So if I haven’t said it lately, thanks. 😉

Has it really been that long ago…time sure does fly. I remember you in the midst of all the crazy, excitment, and nervousness of it all. Keeping the faith and never letting go of your dream Erin. You are truely a success and an inspiration to others. The best part of it all is that we can all see the love that you have for your work and those that you work with, THIS is what makes you a success.

Love seeing the pictures of Sarah looking at herself, priceless!

Erin, I believe you were well on your way to be a successful photographer way before the gap entered the picture (so to speak). Maybe some of us saw it before you did, but it was there 🙂

Wow. 3 years? I remember finding your blog around that time, and voting for Sarah as much I could remember to! It’s amazing how time goes by so fast! Congratulations on all your successes (both in life & in business) since then! I’ve loved following you through the blog. 🙂 Btw, the picture looks great!! {Oh, and testing what we talked about through e-mail. Let’s hope this works!!}

I am one of those “lurkers” who “met” your family during the voting for the Baby Gap contest (I voted for Sarah multiple times!) through a co-worker who knew you from college. I must say, I truly enjoy reading your blog posts and I think you are a terrific photographer. As a mother of two boys who are all grown up now, the best advice I can give is to enjoy every moment of every phase your children go through. Even the difficult phases will soon pass, but time marches on, and you can never go back, so enjoy the present!

I was just talking to Amy about this yesterday! I was very intrigued as to what photo was being framed… we toyed with the idea that you were wallpapering one of Sarah’s walls with the GIANT one.

As you know I was one of those that found you from ILP when voting started for Sarah. Thanks for sharing your lives with us and inspiring us all!

It is so interesting to reflect on past events and see how God has worked through so many people and things to get to where you are, and to where you will be…Plus, how you and the fam have worked in God’s plan to guide others to their place in life. It’s such an exciting journey, knowing He’s guiding the way.

Wow, 3 years?! I agree with you, it was just yesterday! I found your blog when she was a semifinalist and fell in love with your work and your little family! I seriously love seeing them grow, and just see the love you have for them. Often your blog leaves me a little teary eyed, you have such a way with words and with the camera. And in the past 3 years I found that there is no way to plot your future. I recently had a job interview and they asked me where I saw myself in 3 years and I wanted to laugh and say “WHO KNOWS!”. Instead I gave a lame answer about being in management, doing what I love. But inside I know there is no way to even think about where this adventure of life will take you.(got the job too, woohoo!) Anyway, thanks for sharing your blog it’s always a high point in my day!

Funny how one “little” contest can change your life… and the lives of your readers too. Wow, what a beautiful image. Thanks for continuing to share your life, family, humor and talent with all of us out here. Now that Erin Cobb images grace my walls, I can say I am so grateful for having found your blog (and voting for Sarah!) 3 years ago! How quickly time passes! 🙂

and seeing that pic reminds me of taking alla to the gap that summer that they finally got those pics hung in stores, and her saying “hi sarah cobb” and “bye sarah cobb” – life is so quick. how big is the pic and where is it hanging??

Алексей ЕгоркинJuly 20, 2009 - 9:07 am

Браво, ваша фраза просто отличная

Daniel MendezJuly 21, 2009 - 6:47 am

(Catching up on posts since the summer has been very busy… I just came across this one…)
I can’t even imagine life changing so much as it has been for you in these last few years… It certainly is an encouragement to see how God has led in your life and to think that He already has great plans for Sarah and Ephraim!
I was introduced to your blog by a coworker in Ann Arbor, MI since she knew I liked photography… and since that time, you have been in our bookmarks. We love your style and seeing the kids grow. Our 1st is a boy and the 2nd is the girl, so it is neat to see the differences between them though the ages are the same (trucks vs dolls, etc).
Wishing you the best in the years ahead!

To You! Thanks for letting us in your life through the blog. 🙂

Magnificent goods from you, man. I’ve understand your stuff previous to and you are just extremely magnificent. I actually like what you have acquired here, really like what you are stating and the way in which you say it. You make it entertaining and you still care for to keep it sensible. I can not wait to read much more from you. This is actually a great website.
