eta: in reference to #10 of this post, for those of you having trouble with the drop down menus being exposed in IE8, try this trick posted by Allison (THANK YOU ALLISON!):

I had the same problem with your website (and oddly only yours so far?) when I first downloaded IE8, but then clicked on the box with a ripped piece of paper just to the right of the address box – it’s compatability view. It fixed the problem – and it stays fixed when I return to your site, hope that helps others.

1. I have to start this out with my most exciting news (to met at least). My friend Kelley posted a comment on this post asking if I’d heard about growalabama.com. I had not, so I checked it out. I signed up the very next day. I am SO excited to have fresh, seasonal, local vegetables (48 hours from the field!) in my kitchen every week. SO excited.

2. Brent and I have been in a debate for days about the term “towhead” that I used here. He says he’s never heard the word before in his life. I insist it’s an extremely common term. Who’s right?

3. If you haven’t checked out All4Ally lately, do. Become a follower too if you’re so inclined. Ally’s family is drawing such strength from those who are praying for their little girl.

4. Have I mentioned that we’ve unloaded the Pi’bears for a few days? She’s headed down to the beach early with her JoJo and we’ll meet up with her on Thursday. B-Ro is having the time of his life ruling the roost while his sister is away.

5. I think we’re getting a pair of iphones tonight. Any must-have apps I need to add when I get home?

6. Somebody I love is turning three tomorrow. And her birthday package will be late since it’s just going out today. That’s if I get that click-n-ship label printed in time.

7. Speaking of click-n-ship, did you know that you can order a bajillion flat rate envelopes and boxes from the usps.com site, for free. And then just pay for and print the click-n-ship labels from your computer? And then just sit them out on your porch? I didn’t, until three weeks ago. I swear, I’m a changed woman. The post office is my least favorite errand so this has increased my happiness quotient exponentially.

8. Ephraim has started saying “uh-tay!” in response to statements like, “Hey Ephraim, we’re going bye-bye now, okay?”. It makes me melt.

9. Funny thing, as I’m working on this post I’m also surfing other blogs. (It’s a terrible habit I have…to flit around the ‘net when I’m supposed to be working on something entirely different). I was just on Lyndsay’s blog though and saw that her ToT #8 is almost identical to my #5. Pretty funny!

10. Okay, last but not least. For those of you who have been having trouble with the drop down menus of my blog always staying exposed, is that still happening? I put this at the very end hoping you can see it. =) I tinkered a bit last week and am hoping it’s fixed but since I don’t have the issue I can’t tell. I’d be thrilled to hear from any of you who have that problem. Thanks!

LaraJune 30, 2009 - 11:42 am

YOU’RE right! I’ve used the term “towhead” a million times myself, and I’ve heard others use it, too. Here, show your hubs this: http://ask.yahoo.com/20030206.html

GinaJune 30, 2009 - 11:57 am

I have heard of towhead Erin! A very common term to me growing up in the midwest. We refer to a really blonde haired kid as a towhead.

Aunt LuJune 30, 2009 - 12:29 pm

#10 I’m having the problem and it started right after I downloaded Explorer 8. I’m really hoping you fixed it.

HeatherJune 30, 2009 - 12:37 pm

Yes, it is still always exposed πŸ™‚

KarenJune 30, 2009 - 12:46 pm

I still have the drop down menus. I hope you get it fixed.

Megan CJune 30, 2009 - 12:54 pm

Hey, I’m having that same problem too, and its since I downloaded internet explorer 8. Maybe thats what it is! Who knows! The click and ship thing is awesome!! And I miss ephraim!! And sarah! I’ll be in huntsville the end of the week! Maybe I’ll see ya!

PaulaJune 30, 2009 - 1:00 pm

I am so glad you mentioned number 10 b/c I thought I was crazy and was too embarrassed to mention it. It is still happening to me at least. I just downloaded IE 8 as well. hmmm. Funny about the Iphone thing..I was reading yours thinking..did I just read this?? But it was on Lyndsay’s blog..lol

adminJune 30, 2009 - 1:16 pm

Bummer! I was really hoping it had been fixed. Okay, so can you guys go check my business blog and see if it’s happening for you over there. It’s definitely an IE8 thing so try to read on firefox or another browser until I get it fixed. So sorry!

SuzyJune 30, 2009 - 1:19 pm

Well…..I hate to tell Brent this, but you are right!!

ChristiJune 30, 2009 - 1:22 pm

I’m very familiar with the term towhead, now that I have two of them. You are going to love your iPhone. I have to have my AccuWeather to check the radar, Shazam, just because it fascinates me, and Bowl Lite, to pass time in the doctor office, all free apps.

SarahJune 30, 2009 - 1:26 pm

Towhead is a totally common term. Brent is silly! πŸ˜‰ Yep, still seeing the drop downs here, but you’ll be happy to know that they’re NOT on your business blog.

LaceyJune 30, 2009 - 1:56 pm

Erin, I use the term “towhead” all the time in reference to my little white-blonde haired clients. Looked it up in Webster’s for you and it is defined as follows: towhead 1. A head of white-blonde hair. 2. One with a towhead. Sorry, Brent, the wife is ALWAYS right! :- ) Also, I’m extremely guilty of #9 and it drives me crazy…can’t get a handle on it!

AllisonJune 30, 2009 - 1:57 pm

Erin, I love your blog, but have never commented. But, I had the same problem with your website (and oddly only yours so far?) when I first downloaded IE8, but then clicked on the box with a ripped piece of paper just to the right of the address box – it’s compatability view. It fixed the problem – and it stays fixed when I return to your site, hope that helps others. Also, towhead is a very common term :).

adminJune 30, 2009 - 2:06 pm

Oh Allison, THANK YOU! I’m going to tip people off to that tomorrow. SO helpful. I really appreciate it!

Debbie S.June 30, 2009 - 2:16 pm

I love your blog. I have been a lurker, but I had to chime in about the towhead thing since I would know. Yes, its a very common term.

Debbie S.June 30, 2009 - 2:18 pm

I love your blog. I have been a lurker, but I had to chime in about the towhead thing since I would know. Yes, its a very common term.

MeghanJune 30, 2009 - 2:36 pm

Yep, got them as well…right after ie 08.

KellyJune 30, 2009 - 2:39 pm

Hi Erin! I haven’t commented in a looong time, but I just love reading your blog. The term towhead is a common term, but unfortunately I can’t use it to describe my kids. πŸ™‚ Also, I had the same problem with the drop-down menus until I tried Allison’s trick. Works perfectly now!! By the way, thanks for all of your tips- especially the one about the post office! That is awesome!

JenniferJune 30, 2009 - 3:44 pm

I thought a rocket scientist knew everything! Guess not… By the way, I learned about the USPS flat rate boxes last year and use them here at work. They’re awesome!! We use them to ship small samples to the lab and it saves a ton of time and money.

MeganJune 30, 2009 - 4:30 pm

Towhead is very common. In fact, most people refer to Jacob with that word. Just like Gina said, referring to blondies or baldies. Jacob is going to be the same way every single morning when school starts. So free of his bossy sisters!

Megan CJune 30, 2009 - 5:12 pm

That little broken paper button fixed it for me!! Thank you allison! SO I wanted to know if your in town this weekend, because we wanted to come see ya (lawson and I). We have a surprise to tell you!!

jenJune 30, 2009 - 5:41 pm

I use the term towhead all the time to refer to my bleach blonde son. When his hair gets wet all you see is his head and not the hair. And yes the dropdown boxes are still interfering with viewing your gorgeous blog.

KimJune 30, 2009 - 6:01 pm

I had never heard the word towhead until a couple of years ago. I don’t know if I just never paid attention or if it’s not commonly used in S. Cal. I live in AL, and am learning a lot of new expressions.

KarenJune 30, 2009 - 8:04 pm

Yippee – thanks to Allison & you, viewing your website is all good again!! Yippee!! πŸ™‚

lyndsayJune 30, 2009 - 8:20 pm

Great minds shop alike!! LOL!

I’ve never heard of a towhead before, sorry.

NatalieJune 30, 2009 - 9:47 pm

I don’t have an iphone *yet* but I saw not too long ago that Shutterfly has an app for pictures. May be worth checking out?! Just want to say I love your blog and your photography and, I guess finally, ahem, de-lurk. =)

TawnyaJuly 1, 2009 - 6:11 am

Sorry Brent, score one for the wife! Towhead does exist and i’ve used it a million times!
Iphones rock. If you are getting the new one–3GS–use the voice recognition app. ie “Call Brent” and the phone automatically dials and calls him.

Also, you can download something called couch to 5K–for all you aspiring runners out there.

AmandaJuly 1, 2009 - 7:15 am

tara pollard pakostaJuly 1, 2009 - 9:53 am

JoeyJuly 1, 2009 - 10:00 am

Sorry Brent, must agree with Erin…towhead is definitely a common term. ANd yes, E is quite to adorable little towhead. As for your blog, yes I am still having problems with the drop-down menues always being exposed and covering the beginning of each post. Good luck with fixing it…who knows why it is happening????

Heather in OhioJuly 1, 2009 - 10:18 am

Yep, still have the drop down menu problem – but thanks for the ToT. πŸ™‚ Heather

LisaJuly 1, 2009 - 10:45 am

I read all the time but rarely comment–need to work on that one! But I’ve got a towhead and use that term all the time with him! πŸ™‚

wendyJuly 1, 2009 - 8:08 pm

BEING a towhead, and coming from a family of towheads, and having two towheads of my own — yeah. it’s common. then again, I thought the word “titian” was common too — as in Nancy Drew had titian colored hair. but that got shot down for me a while back, so maybe I’m just weird?

I am coming out of lurkdom to cast my vote for you about the towhead thing. I have one of my own.

Sara CooperJuly 6, 2009 - 7:24 am

Who hasn’t heard of tow-head? — what are they teaching at the AFA anyway??? Also – huge THANKS to Allison – I was totally blaming the internet providers here in Holland. Oops – but I’m sure I can find plenty of other ways to cast blame on my funny host-country!
