one year ago.

 Last year I met Ally.

She was 7. A redhead. And a quiet, smiley breath of fresh air.

Exactly one week after that photograph was taken she was diagnosed with Leukemia.

Last week I met Ally again.

She’s now 8. Still a redhead although these days it’s hard to tell. And still that quiet, smiley breath of fresh air.

She’s a cancer-fighting hero and an inspiration.

I was thrilled to see her again for another photo session. As her mom said, it doesn’t matter that Ally has no hair these days. This is their life right now. This is their family right now. And she wanted it documented.

So that’s just what we did. I spent Thursday evening with Ally’s family and 6 other families shooting charity minisessions with all proceeds going to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Together we raised over two thousand dollars.

I want that donation to honor the strength of Ally’s family,

the determination of her grandfather and his bid to be the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Man of the Year,

but most importantly, I want it to honor Ally…

and her tremendous courage, strength, and smiley breath of fresh air.
