A Few Events You Need to Know | Huntsville Mom About Town

Happy Memorial Day to everyone!! I want to take the time to thank those who gave their lives so that my family and I can live in a nation where we have so many rights and freedom!!! It is so overwhelming when you take the time to really think about what Memorial Day truley is. I just want to say thank you!!!

Now on to a couple of things that I think that you all in the Huntsville area need to know about. We have 3 really neat things that are happening this summer and some are new and some aren’t but are still fabulous!

The fist “happening” that I am fired up about is The Greene Street Market at Nativity Church downtown. I had seen signs around and kept making mental notes to see what that was about but forgot UNTIL I was downtown last thursday and I saw tents and all kinds of people on Greene Street and it hit me… that was the Market!!!! So like any good investigator does, I fired Google up and figured it out!!!  It took me to their Facebook page which explained it all. It is a weekley farmers market type gathering! It started on May 19 and has plans on running through September 29. The Market is open from 4-8pm every Thursday. The have everything from veggies, eggs, pies and I even heard that they had Fred Bread.  I believe they even had live music. You will have to go and check it out I definitely will.

The second event that is going on is the Sidewalk Art Stroll that is happening in Huntsville’s very own downtown. It is a great chance for vendors to come out and set up a booth and have people walk around and browse. You can also purchase items there too. It’s like having several fabulous boutiques in one setting! It is open the 3rd Thursday of the month through August. The upcoming dates are June 16, July 21 and August 18. They have everything form  boutiques, to jewelery designers  to local artists. One of our very own MAT features, Cotton Cottage, had a booth set up in May!! It’s a great way to get out and see all the talent that Huntsville has!!! See you there!!

The last thing that I want to make sure that you all know about is the 2011 Concerts in the Park at Big Spring Park. This is a free, family friendly concert every Monday night starting next Monday June 6. It runs through August 8. The concerts start at 6:30 and lasts until about 8. It is a great way just to get out with your family and friends.  I suggest packing a blanket to sit on (or chairs) and basket of dinner and a bottle of wine (shhhh don’t tell them that I told you to!). It is a very laid back evening full of music and fun times!! Take a look at the schedule for the upcoming bands.

Unfortunately we don’t have a  giveaway this week BUT I really thought that you all needed to know of these FREE events that are happing under our noses!! Enjoy and if you see me out be sure to say hello!!!
